  2. Depends a lot on what you do. I would never ever get another 2 meg cache drive after using 8 meg ones.
    Take this example.
Using svcd2dvd to do a 750meg file on a 2 meg drive took approx 50 mins. On 8 meg its done in a max of 20 mins. Same story when raring files so much quicker.

yeah depends on a few things. is your existing drive 5200 or 7200 rpms? If 5200 then yeah your def gonna notice a difference betweent he two major changes.

Also will it be your boot drive? 8mb cache boot drives work really well.

The difference wouldn't be enough to put yourself out over it money wise. Just wait until you can afford it.

From what I can see, the price difference between 2mb cache models and 8mb cache models are fairly close. I would go for the better (8mb cache) drive just on that reason alone. Or you could get one of those new fangled 16mb cache 300gb Maxtor drives...
Your base? Well, they belong to me now...

Pricegrabber has those at around $200 and you can get SATA or PATA. I may forgo the 400GB drives for a pair of those babies.

  6. If it's a capture drive, there'll be no difference; the cache doesn't matter for big files and sustained throughput. But for general use, yeah - the 8MB is better. If the difference were $10 or so, I'd get the 8MB anyway - you never know what you'll use it for.
