  2. That player will playback both DVD-R and DVD+R so it should work just fine. See here https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDname=DVP+NS300+&Search=Search&Submit2=Search

I think the main factor would not be the burner but the type of media you use

I friend happens to have exactly this kind of DVD player. I have given him some DVDs and the first one didn't play. Newer ones I did (I know better now), do. It can play DVD-R and DVD+R disks, provided they are recorded with the proper format.

If you are using Nero, switch to RecordNOW DX. Download the DX upgrade following the instructions that must have came with the SONY drive.

If you have Nero and want to use it, either use version 5.5.10.7b or 5.5.9.14~17. And record as DVD-VIDEO, uncheck Joliet, use ISO Level 1 and uncheck all the "Relaxed ISO restrictions". Only then will the disks be playable. Get a DVD+RW (my SONY came with such a disk) and experiment with the settings.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.
