    Hi,

On your SCVD link: http://www.dvdhelp.com/svcd there is a pointer to "VCD Header Trick" and goes off to this link: http://www.geocities/com/evbq64a/index.htm

The idea is that if your standalone player only supports VCD, you can make a SVCD work by doing some minor edits using TMPGEnc. I tried it and did not work:

    Here were my steps:

    1) Convert by SVCD bin/cue files to MPEG-2 - Using VCDGear
(I use DVD2SVCD for my DVD backup and I only save the bin/cue files
and delete the rest. Disk Space issues..)
    2) Bring the MPEG-2 to TMPGEnc and use the 'Simple multiplexing with MPEG-1 - See the above link for details
    3) Convert the new MPEG-1 file to bin/cue - Using VCDGear
    4) Burn using Nero

I did all that and tried to run this on the stand alone DVD player(which only supports VCD). It did not work.

    Question:
    -----------
    1) Has anyone tried this scheme ? If yes, Did it work and how ?

I have two DVD players(JVC), one supports SVCD and the other doesn't. I just wanted to do 'some tricks' to the VCD supported player to make it work with a SVCD disk.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Well, as you've found, the Header Trick just does not work on all VCD capable players. You didn't say the brand of your player, but Sony players frequently can play them. I'm afraid your SOL.

My standalone player is JVC XV-421 . This is the one where the 'Header Trick' is not working.
