Forty-two's Future?

So what is currently happening with Forty-Two? Is a new version in the works or is 1.5.2 one of the final releases? Just curious about my favorite program.

Been out of town for the last two weeks, and catching up on the forums was about too much. I'm sure that I missed out on something from the 42-Crew.

Haven't had any time to run tests since I got back on the version I have to see if the 1.5.2b fixed any of my issues. Or time to play with Disco to see how it works either...

Fourty-two hasn't really done the job for me. I just bought a new pm 1ghz and installed a superdrive and my fav app for making backup copies of my DVD's is DVD Extractor (aka OSeX).

we've been somewhat on hiatus with forty-two for a bit, all of us have been busy with other things lately, not to say we are totally done with it, but for now it is on hold. From my position i don't think we have any new features in mind (for now), and from what we can see the most current version has addressed a vast majority of the noted bugs. Of course there are the features that have been requested a vast majority of times that i don't think we are considering covering at any point in time (ie vob support) So if anyone has any suggestions (that havent already been mentioned) you can mention them and whenever we get back to working on it, we may consider some new features.--

Just wondering if 42 now gives you 2 sets of .bin/.cue?
I did an update a while back that corrected the expiring issue, but still get only 1 .bin/.cue
the website says march 4th which was the day I downloaded the latest one I have.

Not such a huge issue since I can take the mpeg and split it, but it would be nice to have 42 do it for me

After using succesfully Forty-Two(rate 7 on 10 DVD) on more than one hundred DVD from all regions with all encodings and whatever else, I found that the way subtitles are encoded is not at all standard. Forty Two decodes them in a way or another, but the optinos in the MORE window not always match the actual content of the files, both as language or as subtitles.

For the ones using the subtitle feature in Forty-Two to convert DVD in other formats which include subtiles, it is absolutely necessary adding an option for locating the point in the DVD most useful to get the MPEG test file: as is the program often delivers a point with no dialogue therefore it's impossible to see if the language and subtitles one needs are properly decoded.

Example: The American friend (US VERSION Bought from AMAZON)

In the language tag one finds 3 english language choices.
The first (described as ENG) is the original sound track with german and english from the original sound mix

The second (still described as ENG) is an american english fully dubbed version with no german and wholly rimixed for the US audience

The third (still ENG) does not exists in the original DVD menu and deliver no sound at all

In the DVD the subtitles choice gives two English subtitles options, however the first gives no subtitles at all and the other does.


As the test file has only music and athmosphere I need to convert the whole movie and hope the choice I made is correct. Most time it isn't, but this makes the whole process time extremely consuming, especially if the choices for subs and languages are many.

Another Example is PLATOON (region 3 Tawian etc.)

The subtitles and the audio cover the whole asian countries, and Forty- Two decodes them all, but I had to rip the disk 7 times until I found the proper suibtitles as the test file had no dialogue so the only way for me to know was decoding the entire film. In this DVD the subtitles list in the MORE window in FORTY-TWO never matched to the actual language I needed. Clicking Chinese gave Indonesian, clickin Korean gave Portugues.

Several DVD have this problem language-subs problem. Only if the test file delivers a spoken file one can see if the language subs choice is what's needed. Also Looking at the DVDs original Menu does not help as often the subtitles choice given there does not match what one reads in Forty-Two.

If one had the option to choose the starting point either inputing the Time code then the test would be useful.

I don't know how complex this would be, but it's not a minor issue request.


Also: I was never able to burn the final result (SVCD or VCD) with toast from the files I get from FORTY-TWO, they are always too big, and generally it's only one file which skips the second half of the movie. In fact the whole thing is the main MPEG file outside the BURN WHAT?S IN HERE folder . I need to split the main file using ffmpegX which gives the option to split the files as needed. ffmpegX does it really fast and well, however this option could be enabled in Forty-Two (How many final disks one needs especially choosing SVCD format as the final)
