Why is it not possible to put vcd files on to a dvd ?
when i brought my dvd burner i thought i would be able to put my vcd files onto dvd as that are ,thinking i would be able to fit 3 or 4 films per disk ,i since realised i have to encode them to dvd format and have done a few ,but it's a lot of hassle i've had no end of trouble with lipsync ,2 of my films are in 2 parts ,every parameter are the same when i encode 1 part comes out fine and the 2nd part has sound problems, i thought it was where the films had been chopped but of the 2 films part 1 was ok on the first film and part 2 was ok on the second film.
    Anyway my question is,
Why can't i just burn the vcd files to dvd ?
dvd playes can read mpeg 1 and 44.1 sound from a cd why not from a dvd?

    bee,

I'm doing exactly what your trying, getting VCDs onto DVDs, using Ulead Moviefactory 2 with great results.

Using the following guide for a great starter...

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/139093.php

...yields great results with perfect sync for me. The important things to remember are to 1) Set your MPEG settings to match your imported VCDs 2) Check the box the says 'Don't convert compliant video', which is, matching the settings from step one, and 3) Set your audio to 48k (I use MPEG2 audio) and let MF2 do the conversion.

After cutting cutting out crap and commercials, a 1hr program is usually in the 40-45 minute range getting 9-10hrs of shows on a single DVD. Its great. A whole season of Roswell on 2 DVDs....but at VCD resolution.

Of course I'm now capturing to full DVD with ATI's latest MMC 8.1 and am getting 5-8 episodes per DVD, but the quality is unbelievably better and only 25-60% ( 500mg-700mg vs 420mg) bigger. But that's a different thread.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine

    Thanks neomaine

    I didn't ask for a guide i asked why you can't do it ?
If the player can read 44.1 from cd why not from dvd ?
Is it because the played detects a dvd and looks for dvd formats, if so couldn't one of you brainy feckers make some sort of program to trick the player into thinking it got a cd loaded when it's a dvd or would it mean the disk manufacturer doing it when making the disk or am i just chatting $h!t. (most proberly!)

    Thanks
    Bee..........
P.S, I not asking how to do it ,i just wondering why i can't.
