I am having major problems buring an authored vid to a DVD+RW. Using PS8 to author, rednder and compile to create the vobs and associated files.
I have read almost all of the posts and tried the recommendations/suggestions with no luck.
So my question is, what is the best way to burn? I would greatly appreciate a detailed description of settings to use.
Thanks

If you give further details of the problems that you have, it's more likely that you get some answers. For me I don't have any problem burning using DVD-Video, except for the Burn-Prof (buffer underrun protection) not being used by Nero. The DVDs play fine on all standalone DVD players that I've tried.

@SnoopyDad
This is the way that I use nero succesfully :>
HOW TO BURN A MORE COMPATIBLE DVD WITH NERO (DVD-ROM UDF/ISO)
1.open nero and close wizard
2.in new compilation choose DVD(obvious),dvd-rom(udf/iso)
3.under iso tab choose only iso level1 and iso9660 (tick these boxes,leave others blank)
4.under udf tab tick the force compatibility mode box and this greys out the physical
partition portion(this is ok)
5.hit the new button at the left hand side and drag and drop your VIDEO_TS and
AUDIO_TS(empty folder) to your new compilation
6.hit the burn button and when the dialogue box appears(to set write speed etc) hit write.
7.YOU should now have a disk that should play on your set top dvd player.
WHEN I DO THIS I CAN GET THE DISKS I DO TO PLAY ON MANY SET TOP BOXES AND PS2'S.
THE ONLY TIME I'VE EVER EXPERIENCED PROBS IS WITH PLAYERS THAT AREN'T MULTI-REGION.I also
use the latest version of nero when available.
Hope this helps,doesn't work for everybody it seems but it does WORK for a LOT OF PEOPLE.I suppose in the end it depends on your set-up etc but I would give this a try. Try a RW first if possible. -
Hi, i have a similar question
I've had trouble with Nero when i use Verbatim DatalifePlus DVD-R.
Nero shows the following error:
"There has been a possible read error during the operation, which may result in a defective write. Do you wish to continue the write anyway?"
Do you know what this error is about?
DVDJet you mentioned to choose DVD-Rom option instead of DVD-Video. Why is that?
I normally choose DVD-Video option. -
@bayaraa_us
I choose DVD-ROM instead of DVD-VIDEO because by default dvd-video uses udf 1.05 and there is no option to change this.A lot of older players and some new ones have trouble reading udf 1.05 so this is why I choose dvd-rom plus the fact that I found this method works for me.NERO should sort out the problem at source though and fix it,that's if they want to. -
Where to start?? The problems in detail
1 - As part of determining best quality, I rendered/compiled 9 copies of the same clip to disc, burned using Nero in UDF/ISO mode, the DVD played on the standalone, however, I had picture but no sound.
2 - Attempted to burn a 2hr video with menu in UDF/ISO mode, got the error that the file is over 2GB size and could not load as file (probably due to ISO?)
3 - Same 2 hr video w/menus, burned as DVD-Movie, copied bofs, ifos and vobs to the VIDEO_TS sub-dir and all other files to the root dir, standalone reads disc and then stops, nothing.
4 - 2hr video w/o menus, in UDF, file size is shown to be +7 GB, won't fit, tried DVD-Video again, this time, based on reading newer posts, turned off Joliet etc, ISO9660 on, same problem, reads disc then stops, no picture or sound.
5 - Somewhere in the experimentation, possible UDF, it burned the 2 hr vid, standalone came up with root menu that allowed picking chapters, however, could only access two out of 24 chapters, this version had sound but no video.
More info - capture was done at full DV quality from TV (1) and VHS (2-5), rendered, compiled using PS8 to file, then Nero to burn. One attempt also rendered the file to avi, imported to TMPG to convert to MPEG2, back into PS8 for authoring to disc. Burning has been to a Verbatim DVD+RW. -
Clarification to my earlier post
on 5) - I believe that it may have been DVD-ROM not UDF, but not positive.
Another question regarding Studio 8 -
When the video is autthored, PS8 produces the Video_TS files as well as a bunch of other sub-dir, some are empty, some are not, I have tried copying only the VIDEO-TS compatible files into the Nero Video_TS sub-dir, giving me the problem listed in 4).
as a note, the authored disc will play on the CPU - sound and video -
Pinnacle Studio 8 is very buggy, you should try to download the latest update (8.5.21) or the latest beta if you dare (8.7.1)... Anyway, if in the first try you got video, but not audio, did you use mpeg audio? If yes, try using PCM audio (uncompressed), this is the standard for NTSC.
As I said before I always use the DVD video template, and no problems here. -
@bayaraa-us,
The problem you are having is not the type of media you are using, all you have to do is run you main movie files through IFO Edit, or DVD2ONE and then burn with nero -
igalan, I'm pretty sure that I have the most recent update of PS8, I will verify that.
As part of my quality test, one option was the MPEG audio on or off, and as part of the test matrix, some did, some didn't, and there was no sound any any of them.
What video template ae you referring to? Could you provide a copy or a link? My email address is snoopycollector@hotmail.com
Could it havce something to do with the files I am copying over to burn? What are the specific file types, besides the Video_TS, that need to be copied over?
Thanks -

P.S.: I suggest that you don't post your emal address in public forums, you can use private messages for this -
I just downloaded Nero update 5.5.10.20 and it works. Nero doesn't show the error anymore. And it can burn on Verbatim Datalife Plus DVD-R fine.
Except one thing. Before the update it was showing error when i try to backup Monsters inc (read my previous post). And it wouldn't play on my PS2. Now it doesn't show the error but still won't play on PS2. Strange thing is when i burn exact same files into Verbatim DVD+R, everything would play fine. It is only for Monsters inc. Other backup movies seems to work fine.
No wonder Sony warned against Verbatim DVD-Rs that sold before November 2002. But the one i purchased is in February 2003 ????
I guess i won't buy Verbatim DVD-R anymore. -
I have burned some Verbatim DVD-R. I guess they where newer versions, since I didn't have any problem (10 DVD-R), they play fine on all DVD standalone that I tried and all computers

I burned VIDEO_TS directory created by Pinnacle Studio 8 with Nero. It should work.
Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home)
