Well the opening pretty much says it all. Is there a way i can do a "header trick" sort of thing but to make a SVCD look like a DVD to a DVD player. My friends DVD player won't play vcds or SVCD. OR is there a way i can a cd to make it look like a DVD, should it matter what the resolution of the mp2 file is, DVD is VBR just like SVCD, so can I just burn a SVCD as DVD on a CD and get it to work like that? Please help thanks.

For SVCD to DVD you can try this: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=142742

SVCD is mpeg2 and so is DVD, so there's no header trick possible. Resolution and audio sampling frequency are different, so that's a problem. Check the guides or do a forum search for more tips.

Yes, you can create a "DVD" on a CD. Did it once with Ulead Movie Factory, but the resulting CD didn't play OK on my stand alone. The data rate was simply too high to be read from a CD. But if done "by hand" using a CVD speced MPEG2 (with 48 kHz audio) it ought to be possible.

    mats,
do you mean "by hand" to drop the bit rate to say 2500 or so?

"By hand", I mean encoding with TMPGEnc (or other encoder) to CVD specs (like 2500 @352*480/576) and 48kHz mpeg2 audio. Then author this mpeg as DVD. I'm not familiar with DVD authoring apps, but there must be some that allow this kind of mpeg. But don't go too high with the bit rate - Many DVD drives in standalone are just 2-spin. Someone told me min bitrate for DVD is somewhere between 18-1900 kbps, so try 2000 kbps. That ought to look godd at 352*576

Search for minidvd or mini dvd . Try www.digital-digest.com, they had a good older article on minidvd's. Note, most players won't play these; if you player will read files (as opposes to proper SVCD/VCD format) then it will most likely read minidvd's.
