  1. I need help please, cant find what im looking for anywhere else, or i just plainly dont understand. My problem is this.

I have 2 disc (cd-r) movies, be they vcd or svcd, and i would like to be able in future to put both files (mpg/dat per cd) onto 1 dvd-r, so you dont have to switch discs when 1st finishes.

I have read tuts, but when i burn the files as a data disc, my pioneer dv525 says DVD cannot play. I find this strange as it plays the files if they are on a cd, but not if they are on a dvd.

I have not tried to convert the audio, as i cant see that being the problem. If an mpg/dat plays on my dvd player whilst in a vcd/svcd template - i.e EXT MPEG2 SVCD folders, why cant i get them to play if written onto a DVD-r?

    Thanks.

Are you just copying the mpgs and dats to the dvd? With same file structure as on a vcd/svcd??

  3. I have tried copying just the files to root, no folders, and tried putting the files in a proper structure.

    I.E

    EXT
MPEG2 - (mpg files in here)
    SVCD

VCD/SVCD on DVD is no "standard" and most dvd players only play standard formats (probably does most players identify the media first and if dvd media it expects a dvd-video and cd media, cd audio or vcd/svcd). So you must author the video to standard DVD-Video format.

Some few dvd players have a built-in "file browser", so you can play any mpg/dat/vob file on a cd or dvd media (called MPEG ISO/DATA playback in our dvd player list).

  5. Gotcha.

Many thanks for the explanation mate. I just thought that coz my dvd player played vcd/svcd disks, it would play exactly the same burnt onto a dvd rather than a cd. Looks like its going to be too much hassle to put them onto dvd-rw just to watch the once, rather than use cd-rw as i do now.

Thanks a lot for the replies.
