  1. Hi,

When I try to playback videos in DVD format with a video bitrate > 1500 kbps using the Windows MediaPlayer, I see some flickering. It seems like some single video frames are corrupted (in fact they seem to be shifted horizontally). This happens even when the file comes from harddisk. The problem increases with higher bitrates.
But all this doesn't happen when I use PowerDVD for playback. With PowerDVD there is NO problem at all playing videos with bitrates up to 9000 kbps and coming from harddisk or DVD-ROM drive!
One more curious detail: When I use PowerDVD to play a DVD from my DVD-ROM drive and activate the TV-OUT of my graphics card to watch the video on my TV simultaneously, guess what happens: On my desktop the video is fine but on the TV I see the corrupted frames!

I already tried to update my MediaPlayer to Windows Media version 9.x - without any success!

    Any idea out there?
    Thanx in advance,
    David

    Dunno about FLICKERING...
but WMP is not a good player for DVD.. It fails to properly recognize the ASPECT RATIO of some of my DVD's and forces me to look at a 4x3 version of my widescreen movies..
Anyone really know why WMP is so reticent to show material at its NATIVE size and quality?

Because MS goal is not to create the best player in existence, but to build in features that they can sell licences for.

  4. Hmmm... but isn't the best feature to sell licenses that the player is working with DVD video format and bitrates? I mean DVD is the most commercial and wide spread format out there!

WMP doesn't do Interlaced Video (part of it is realted to full video processing versus overlay). Whereas PowerDVD/WinDVD does(full processing to deal with the slight stretching/sqat video you get for the differences between 1:1 VGA and 4:3 TV).

have you tried burning the movie on a disc to see if it looks good on your tv?
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

  7. Hi Conquest10

What I've tried is to burn a DVD and play it on the computer drive. And as I mentioned, with PowerDVD it looks fine, with Mediaplayer it doesn't.

What I've not tried yet is to put the same disk in a standalone player connected to the TV - because I don't have one at the moment. But I'll try that with a friend's player asap.

  8. Additional Information:
I also got the same problem when using ATI Player for playback.

  9. Has anyone any more ideas how I can update my players (WMP and ATI-Fileplayer) to be able to playback such files?
