Problem with data...

Sorry about the question that I know has probably been asked alot but I can't find any answers. I have a Lite-On 52246S. WinXP, Athalon 2400+ and of course Nero.
I can burn cd to cd just fine. I can NOT make a data cd to save my life. I keep getting the error message: Lite-On scsi/ide command abortet, Burn process failed and something about could not write end- track. I have used many different type of media. Cdr and cdrw's. I even uninstalled then tried Nti cd maker and it wouldnt work either. I am becoming perturbed here. I need to back up some files and don't know what to do! Please help.

ps. I have installed all updates for all drivers I could find. Could it be a hardware problem? what if i make my burner my slave drive and my dvd rom the master? should i switch ide channels ? I am stumped!
I don't have any other cd programs on the computer, but I do have musicmatch jukebox.

i actually figured it out. I thought i had updated everything but i missed on thing. I went to the device manager and checked my mainboard's ide controller and wouldnt you know it! There was a new driver update. now it works just fine.
