when playing SVCD or VCD home recorded discs (made by me or my friends) the player sometimes freezes and jumps scenes. My computer dvd-rom (samsung sd-616) can read the discs without any problem. The same discs are read without any problems by my friends dvd players (grundig, pionner, etc). The firmware that came with the player is: 7.9.5 or 4.64.03 (I don't know wich is the number that represents the firmware). The player was already region free when I bought it.
I hope you can help me because I can hardly play any recorded discs.

I can only speak from personnel experience with the Philips 724 here.
It did not like some brands of CDR.
I know it is a different model but try a different CDR, (different color dye). -
I think I´ve got the problem resolved. Me and my friends burn SVCD's with the image file made by DVD2SVCD. Those SVCD's are the ones that can make my player to freeze. Now I pick only the mpeg files made by DVD2SVCD and create the discs with NERO. Now the player can read the discs well and also shows the time ellapsed. With the image files the player didn't show the ellapsed time.
