I have a Daytek DVR-950S and I need to upgrade the firmware. Unfortunately, this will cause the formating of the HDD. Instead of burning all of that video to DVD, I pulled the drive out and put it into a USB case. The computer sees the HDD and the files on it, but when I try to play a file, it won't play. I can't open the files in Video Inspector to get any info on the files. I also tried to open the files in MPEG-VCR, without luck. Is there any way to rip these files to the computer?
    Thanks,
    Ted

I don't know what to tell you. You can likely move the files as a data block to one of your computer hard drives, but that won't help you any to open them. I would take the easy way out. Put the drive back in the DVR and burn the files from there, then reformat the drive with the upgrade. But you may have already figured this out.

But another member may have a better solution.

    And welcome to our forums.

What is the file extension of the files? You likely won't be able to just play the files. At the least, I would expect you would have to convert the files to a standard pc format.
