  1. Hello,
I have 3 avi files with total size supposed to fit one VCD...I use TMPGenc to convert them but when I do the first AVI file (200MB) the MPEG comes off to the full size of CD. Do I somehow have to merge the 3 AVI files before I try to convert to VCD? Also how can I make sure that all 3 files are written as '3 tracks' so I can pick or skip them when playing on a DVD device.

    Thanks!

  3. they are around 230-250MB each and their file names are saying that they would fit one VCD.

Avi filesize has no direct relation to mpeg filesize. You can get up to 90 minutes of decent quality video on one VCD (some would say more). Here's a guide that might help: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=84759
Use VBR encoding to save space, if your player supports it.

You don't have to join the files before encoding, they can be burned as separate tracks on the VCD. If you use VCDEasy (like me) just drop the mpegs in and burn away.

3 1/2 hours is way too much for one disk, you might try two but quality will be questionable.

3 and a half hours? you have got to be joking. you cannot fit that much on a vcd. you would have to have the bitrate at 252 kb/s.

  9. these are old b&w movies with average quality, all in all I've downloaded all 12 pieces and every single filename says: put 3 pieces on 1 VCD. What I'm trying to find out is HOW I can try to do that.

ok...you could try kwag's templates ( www.kvcd.net ) that will help you fit up to 360 minutes of good quality video on a cdr. since your source isn't that good, you can try that.

You can put three on one CD, as is. Definitely not as VCD's. (or try KVCD like Conquest10 suggested.)

  13. Thanks Zippy.
For burning I've been using Nero Express. I'm not sure though if it will reajust 3x700MB MPEG files to fit one VCD.

  14. yes you are right, btw the filenames also mention CD, not VCD.
But do standalone DVD players normally read this format?

if they are avi, dvd players will not play them. you have to convert to mpeg.

yes I know, that's why I'm converting them to MPEG...My question is if I burn them not as VCD but as regular CD using your template, will a dvd player read it?
