  1. this is wierd. I have a apex500w hooked up to my 19' tv and it plays burned svcds/vcds good. but when i play a regular dvd, it gets bright, then very dark, then bright, then dark every 10 or so seconds. please tell me why, it's annoying.

    This may be a result of macrovision. Do you have it hooked up through any adapters or a VCR?

  3. That is 100% macrovision. You need to plug your DVD player directly into your TV (this will fix it). It's there to stop people from making copies of DVD to VHS.

  4. yeah, it's plugged into my vcr. that sucks cause I have to buy a 30$ converter from radio shack now

    well, there might be two other things you could try (if you still want it running through your VCR):
    1.) check and see if there is a Macrovision hack for your DVD player (I do think Apex's generally have a hack for MV and region)
    2.) there are de-MV boxes out there that remove type-1 and type-2 MV (helpful for copying DVDs and VHS tapes)
