Help. I thought my computer monitor was dying so I bought a new one, because the picture was getting darker and darker, and I could barely watch DVDs anymore. With my new monitor everything is bright - but so bright it hurts my eyes. when I darken the setting on the monitor, the desktop and internet look fine but videos and dvd movies are now really dark. (it's like on default settings videos show normal but the desktop etc are too bright, and when I lower the brightness on the monitor or the nvidia settings the desktop looks ok but now videos come out really dark.) I installed the latest nvidia drivers, and used the tool to calibrate the picture with nvidia's "run display optimization wizard" but when I calibrate the gamma to what it tells me to. It comes out much much darker.

Any idea how to fix this problem?

  2. Be sure to use Video overlay when playing video. Then use the video proc amp settings in the Nvidia control panel to adjust the brigtness, contrast, etc. That way the desktop won't be affected, only the video.

Video may be using overlay settings and those would be separate from your desktop video card settings. You should have some overlay settings on your video card software.

Normally video looks darker on a computer monitor than a TV, but that doesn't seem to be your problem.

    EDIT: What jagabo said.

I went to that screen you have shown, but when I move the tabs down or up and hit apply, nothing changes, I even moved them all the way down to 0 and hit apply and still no change? the preview screen on the right shows the changes but nothing more than that?

  5. What player are you using? The player must be set up to use video overlay. Only one program at a time can use Video overlay so if you have both the control panel and a video up at the same time only one will change.

Also, as long as the video overlay settings are at their defaults, most players have their own color and brightness settings.
