Idiot needs help re: Tmpgenc.

Tmpgenc wont accept my .d2v file from a recent dvd rip. It says it is a unsupported file type? I looked through this forum and saw somebody had same problem. He found the answer but didn't post it. Please could somebody give me the idiots guide to where I'm going wrong.

On my desktop when I rip a dvd and then run it through DVD2AVI so TmpgEnc+ can open it, everything works fine ( I do not have the DVD2AVI.VFP in Tmpgenc directory). But when I do this same procedure on my laptop I must have a copy of DVD2AVI.VFP in Tmpg's directory or the .d2v won't open. Why is that? From Sefy's Ultimate Newbie DVD Conversion Guide v2.1 troubleshooting section it says "1) In Order for TMPGEnc to recognise D2V files, you MUST have the VFAPI and the DVD2AVI.VFP file located where the TMPGEnc.EXE file is! it will NOT work any other way!"

hi!

in order to have tmpgenc open the .d2v file, you have to have dvd2avi registered where it is and where the dvd2avi.vfp file is.

just put dvd2avi.exe and dvd2avi.vfp in one directory of your choice.
start dvd2avi.exe once and make sure the "register to VFAPI" is checked in the menu (i think it's in the "about" menu).

then you can open the .d2v file in tmpgenc.
and don't mess with different versions of dvd2avi.
v1.77 won't read v1.76 files and vice versa.

if you have both versions of dvd2avi, the one last started will be the one tmpgenc will use.

that's all.
quite simple for my taste.

of cource if you use more than one computer, you have to have dvd2avi on both computers, and you have to at least start it once on both computers, so it can register is's VFAPI plugin.

if you prefer, you can of course copy the dvd2avi.vfp to tmpgenc's folder ... i prefer to keed dvd2avi registered correctly, but it should work both ways.
