How the heck is this done, I looked at one of the guides but was left wondering if there was a better way. I need to back-up my Simpsons DVD's because my kids are killing the actual disks. Can any one out there give me some advice?
    Thanks for your help

Silky31: Do those apps allow you to do a disk split cause otherwise the video quality on on of those simpson sets is gonna be pretty low when its done compressing.

I confess I haven't yet done a simpsons (although I have series one region one but until I figure how to region free my drive Click here and Help me! I can't back it up), but I have done all kinds of six episode disks and the quality, for me at least, has been fine.
I've used IC7 and taken out some of the larger extra's (devoting more time to just episodes, obviously) using the patch and they've been superb.
It's been said on this forum not to use IC7 to strip unwanted title sets but it's always worked for me.

  5. I am actually backing them up right now with IC7 and they look in my view exactly the same. This is probably because they are animated... or maybe other people will see differences... but I really don't. My friend couldn't tell which one was the backup when I showed them to him.

hi i have just done a copy of the office series 1. i used smartripper to copy the files to my harddrive. you have to select backup, so it gets everything. then i used dvd2one ver 1.11 and selected full disc. this made a perfect copy with all the extras and menus and i couldn't see any difference in quality. took about an hour including burning.

    hope this helps

I think that's the key, if you're happy with it then great!
I'm sure mine aren't as good as the original but like you I can't tell and I'm sure as hell ain't gonna start comparing!

I have never used Instant Copy 7, is there a guide for it? But I do have DVD2ONE.
    Thanks

  9. I'm not that familiar with the above utilities, but you want to avoid reencoding if at all possible.

How many episodes are on each DVD? if 2 or 4, you could split the eps into 2 DVDs.

i believe smart ripper will separately rip the episodes.

I believe there are at least four, maybe more. Yes Smart ripper serperatly rips the episodes. My goal is to have one DVD with a very limited menu and at least the 4 episodes per DVD.
    Thanks

I agree it's not ideal to re-encode but for some of us it's the best option.
I don't want to spend an age ensuring these backup's are identical to the original. I have a thirteen month old son and would rather spend time with him than with ifoedit!
IC7 is great as it's an absolute doddle to use, it's soooooooo easy and it gives you the facility to strip out unwanted extra's.
I did a six episode disk recently and a 1:1 copy would have re-encoding everything at 56% of the original - not acceptable, even I won't accept such a drop in quality.
After removing just two extra's (the two largest, one at 28 mins and the other at 22 mins) I set the six episodes to encode at 90% of original quality and the eight extra's I left in at 80%.
Of course I could have dropped all extra's and this would have left me the menu, chapter selection and virtually 100% dvd episode quality.
IC7 is well worth the purchase price, but the patches (not from the main site) are essential otherwise you can't pre-set which extra's to keep/lose and at what setting you want the quality.
If you aren't bothered for as close a quality as possible (under 6gb I tend to keep everything and just re-encode disk to disk) then use dvd2one. It copies 1:1 disk and only takes about half an hour (plus ripping and burning time of course).

  12. i've copied simpsons season 1 and two (zone 1) with ic7 and i was satisfied, i can't see any difference (but i don't have a nice home cinema)
if it's for keeping the actual dvd away from you kids, do it ! they won't see the difference.
