I'm a newbie, I followed the guide on this forum to burn my *.avi file onto a svcd, here is what I did,
the source file is about 52:00 long, MPEG-2 480x480, 23.976fps.
I used TMPGEnc convert the file into a *.mpg file, some of the settings are:
Non-interlace(progressive)
Top field first,
NTSC,
CBR (1990kbps)
full screen(keep ratio), etc.
700M CD-R is used.
the resulting *.mpg file plays ok, both picture and sound are fine, and the time length is correct, 52:00m
The strange thing happens after I burn the file onto SVCD(or image), the time length of the video change to 38:00m. But it still plays fine, and everything is on the SVCD, nothing is lost. "60s" on the SVCD actually equals about 80s in real time, so the time length changed to 38:00m.
I used Nero and I also tried different disk image making and burning software, some even give me longer time length, none gives the correct time.
I later found out, if the video file itself is less than 38:00m and the CRB is bigger than 2500Kbs, then the SVCD has correct time length. But for video longer than 38:00m the CRB will be less than 2500Kbs, which means more discs will be needed.
I aslo tried other different settings in TMPGEnc, Inverse telecine, 3:2 pulldonw, none helps. It's seemed I can't get rid of the constraint of 38:00.
Does anybody has a clue about this? Thank you.

This is a common problem with SVCDs and some DVD players, esspecially Sampo made players. Which DVD player do you own? If it is a Sampo then you may be able to get a firmware update for it from www.area450.com

My DVD player is APEX AD-3201, I also burned a disk image and played it
using WinDvd, both gave the same result, so I never thought it's a problem of player. Thank you very much, crazeplaya.
