  1. 1. I just recently got into the whole encoding videos, and have learnt a bit about tmpgenc. and vitrualdub. I recently downloaded a movie, and I went to separate the wav file (following intructions from this site) in virtualdub so i can encode it, and i got this error msg:

"The requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check the sampling rate and channel count of the inpt match those of the requested format."

I tried to decompress the file, but cant find a prog. that works on my comp.

What can i do to fix the problem?

    2. Another problem ive been having is with harry potter dvd-ripped divx file i downloaded. on my comp, it plays fine, but wen i encode it, it goes really badly out of sync. i tried fixing it using the guide on this site, but wen i fixed the point where it goes out of sync, it fixes for a while, then goes bak out of sync even more! PLease help!

  2. re: harry potter divx
one BIG mistake i made when i started encoding video (and im still a newbie) is that i chose the wrong frame rate. be sure to choose the SAME frame rate as the source. this will save a lot of trouble.

  3. The error sounds like you've chosen to output the audio with compression. Load your vid into Vdub. In the audio menu of Vdub, select full processing mode. Then go back to the audio menu and select compression. Make sure it says uncompressed PCM. Then if you have to change the sample rate to 44.1 kHz (for VCD compatibility) then go back to the audio menu and select conversion. There you can change the sample rate to whatever you want. Now go to the file menu and select save WAV. Hope that helps.

The sound problem is because the movie has AC3 sound...you should extract the audio with virtualdub using Direct stream copy instead of full processing mode...then convert to normal WAV with either Besweet or Goldwave.

If your gonna use Goldwave then you don't have to extract with Vdub. Load the Avi in Goldwave then select save...that's it! 8)

Thanks for reminding me of that again Zippy

I do tend to use virtualdub to extract the audio first because Goldwave takes such a long time on my PC so I just use Goldwave for the essential bits like time warping and converting AC3 to WAV.

When I tell Goldwave to do anything it seems to just hang for several minutes before eventually it will start converting whatever it is I asked it to...does this happen on your copy of Goldwave Zippy?

Yeah, Goldwave can take a while. It doesn't hang for me but it might just be processor speed holding you up.
