    I am having trouble opening a AVI file created on a mac to play on windows XP . I have tried all forms of software but it does not work ???

    Needed for a project due tommorow.

  2. Use mediainfo or gspot to determine what video & audio codecs are required. Install the required codecs.

    You can also try playing back VLC, Mplayer or KMPlayer which all have internal codecs and are not reliant on system installed codecs.

    Tried the freeware Quicktime Alternative player? I suspect that format if it's from a Mac. Gspot or MediaInfo may tell you. It may have a .mov extension. You can also try VLC, but QT is proprietary, so VLC may not play it either.

    What form of AVI file is it? Uncompressed? DV? Divx? They are all very different. If it is a DV-AVI, I have recently learned that Macs use Raw DV, while Windows-based editors use either Type-1 or Type-2 DV (mostly the latter.)

    Load the AVI on your XP computer. Download GSpot (see Tools on this site) and analyze the file to determine the type of AVI you have.
