  1. Hey guys:
I'm trying to convert my .avi movies to SVCD's, and I have tried to do lots of research and have tried burning MANY svcds to try what seems like everything. I want to convert the divx, which is originally Widescreen (either that or Cinema Wide...marginally 'wider' than 16:9) and I want it to convert so that I can watch it on my 16:9 TV AND normal 4:3 TV's. With my research and trial and error so far, it has either stretched the picture on either TV, or, for example, played beautifully on my Widescreen but either streched the image or cropped the image on the 4:3 TV. I want it to be full screen (or close) on the 16:9 TV and have black bars on the top and bottom for the 4:3 TV. For these conversions I have used TMPGEnc. By the way I have read the other message similar to this a couple weeks ago, and I am still having troubles. Sorry for the Long Message...I wanted to be specific...Please Help...THANKS!!!!!

    Try this:

    Source aspect ratio: 1:1 (VGA)
Video arrange Method: Full screen (keep aspect ratio)

On a 16:9 T.V set, all you have to do is press zoom to make it fill the entire screen.

  5. Actually I think he wants to make an anamorphic SVCD. Long story short you can not do this (anamorphic DVD no problem).

There are three DAR (display aspect ratios) you're likely to deal with:

1:1 all PC video (even Divx)
    4:3 standard TV
    16:9 widescreen TV and film

Don't confuse the DAR of 16:9 with the aspect ratio
    1.77:1 widescreen/hdtv
    1.85:1 academy flat
    2.25:1 anamorphic widescreen

Anyway, if your source is divx then the source DAR is 1:1 (doesn't matter that it's a from a 16:9 DVD rip, a correctly encoded pc video file is always 1:1). So puertorican138 advise is the way to go.
