  1. Is there any way I can speed up the process of ripping my dvd's with Smart Ripper? Before i was able to rip dvd's fast with speeds up to 8 to 10x maybe faster I can't really remember. That was on my sony vaio pc.

With the current pc I have, that I made I can only rip at 2x so it take up to 40 mins to rip the dvd's! Is there any way I can speed it up? I have my specs listed. Thanks!

Some DVD drives only rip at 2x. Sucks to be us. Since I batch overnight, it's not an issue for to warrant dumping a new drive.

perhaps look for different firmware for your drive. or buy a a new drive. you can get a Liteon 16x drive for less than $30. i rip a whole DVD in 10-15 mins. with mine.
Laserdiscs are cool, but laserdiscs on DVD-Rs are cooler.

  4. Your drive is locked at 2x. Firmware upgrades will not improve your ripping speed with this drive. If you have another drive bay available, suggest you get a 16x Liteon (166s) to use as your ripper or if you still have your old computer, pull the reader from it and put it in your current setup.

  5. I use smart ripper and find it depends on the film to how long it takes; it normally takes up to 20mins, if you are viewing the film to unlock the vobs it crawls along. Once you have unlocked the bad bit close down the film and let it rip. Hope this helps

Goto device manager and remove your hard drive controllers, then reboot and let them re ID. That should reset DMA and maybe the speed will go up. Also check if ASPI is installed properly and Make sure your using the VIA 4in1 drivers if you motherboard has a via chipset.

  7. actually i have a similar problem to the original poster's. i find that on some dvds smart ripper can go as high as to 8x the speed, while other times it does not go higher then 2x. Seeing as how it does this sometimes and not others, i was wondering then if something with the actual dvd itself had something to do with it?

i have the pioneer dvr-rw 104 drive. I still have the 110 firmware, as mine was purchased with a custom built system at bestbuy. So the firmwares online do not work with my dirve and Compaq has not given an update for this drive.

    try installing force aspi
it helped increase my ripping speeds

  9. thanks for the info, but my system/burner work fine with the aspi drivers. my dvd-r drive burns dvds at 2x max, it cannot burn higher then that as it was not made to. Burns cds very quickly though.

but again if does rip some dvds at high speeds and some dvds only at 2x. So if it does it for some and not for others perhaps it just something with the program itself? i also have clad dvd ripper and this one rips higher then 2x for whatever i use, but i just prefer smart ripper

On my liteon dual layer disk rip slower then single, yes on my friends dual layer rip faster then single, we have different brands. So yes the disk AND drive combo makes all the difference. If the system is decryping the movie the speed of the computer also seems to play a factor in my playing around.

  12. So I guess that Intel would be a tad better than amd's? My old pc was a p4 1800 with 256 sdram, and It would rip fast. Im talking like 20 minutes and under, but my athlon xp1800 running at 1.52 w/ 256 ddr ram takes rougly 40 mins to an hour!

I plan on buying a dvd-rom strictly for ripping and upping the ram to 2 sticks of 512....

any suggestions on a good dvd-rom? Maybe I should get a sony. That what was on the last pc and it worked great.

  13. I rip most DVD movies in seven minutes for single layer and less than 15 minutes for dual layer DVD's. This is on a P4-2.53GHz/1GB PC2700/winXP system. My DVD drive is the LiteON LTD 166s. My second system (AMD 1400) is a bit slower but not much and it has a LiteON LTD 133f drive.

  14. well I ripped my Zombie dvd with DVD Decrypter in under 6 minutes...with speeds at 10x

I ripped the whole 3.68 dvd and burned it with nero and that took about 50 mins at 1x speed. So know I know it has to be Smart ripper....

  16. My 1.4 Athlon rips in anything from 10mins to 20 mins, I have even ripped the film and ripped it again and the times are totally different? Work that one out.
