Hello all,
I tried to rip The road to Perditition and found the first chapter locked has any one any ideas. I used smart ripper and then tried DVD Decrypter, this also failed. I ran the movie on the pc to try and unlock it but with no luck. I have done many before without hassle maybe they have come up with decent protection. I ignored the first part of the locked file and the rest of the film ripped ok thus leaving me with the beginning missing.
All help welcome![]()

What brand DVD drive were you ripping with? Do you have another? If so try it... I've run into a few that give problems on my Liteon but were fine on my A04, and vice versa! BUT my cousin had one we couldn't get to rip at all, in that case he configured DVD Decrypter to skip over errors and he says the final disk looks and works fine.

Hello.
I used my Pioneer 105 DVD burner to rip the vobs and my Matshita DVD Rom SR 8588 SCSI Cd Rom both with the same results. The DVD disc had a ring near the centre like the protection on some games. I used my Hollywood magic decoder card to view the vobs and the rest of the film played fine, but of course no beginning. -
I was able to rip The road to Perditition with dvddecrypter and a 105.
Have you tried different types of rip i.e. files or iso? -
No I haven’t, I am not used to using this program so I tend to use Smart ripper. Have you any guidance of what to look for using this program? Unfortunately I don’t have the film any more but will use this information in the future.

I had a similar problem so what I did was rip just the VOB file that was giving me fits separately then put it back with the other files and that worked.

Call me stupid but how did you rip the locked vobs, as Smart ripper was assessing what to rip this is when it locked. I clicked on continue or ignore and it jumped past it and carried on ripping as normal thus the first part of the film was missing.
Cheers -
Well that may be another problem altogether. Try using dvddecrypter which is not that difficult to figure out. If it also has problems it could just be a bad or damaged disc. Also some have said it helps to start the DVD movie using programs like PowerDVD then a after a few minutes start SmartRipper.
Also I should add it may be possible to just copy the VOB files one at a time onto your hard drive then rip them. I have done this with single files that were giving me problems but not all the files. -
I have tried running the film using my Hollywood magic decoder card for different lengths of time but as you play the film it rips at .3 speed, by the time it got to the locked bit it would be the following day. I will persist a bit longer next time using DVD Decrypter.
Cheers all help welcome.

i have the same problem with about 1 in 10 Japanese movies i try to rip. I've tried DVDdecrypter as well as smartripper, and have had varying successes with both. I'm guessing its just the methods they use to crack the keys that are the differences in ripping, and there isnt much you can do if your ripper cant break the keys.

I've had that same problem with my Bumfights dvd. It's starting to crack from the center hole and I wanna make a copy before it's to late! It wont rip on either smart ripper, dvd decrypter or cladvd!
