  1. I'm looking for a capture card (videocard+tuner) with high quality smooth picture and good audio (my ATI seems to have problems). I currently have an ATI AIW Radeon and I'm having too many problems with it.. so I'm looking for a new card to get. It's not going to be used for much except capturing occasional tv appearances which I want in good quality in mpeg1 and mpeg2. Based on the ratings, I'm looking into Asus V8200 T2 Deluxe
    Winnov Videum 1000
    Asus V6600

and I was looking into Matrox before but their support doesn't seem to be the greatest. Anything off the list would be really helpful as well as critiques on the list.. please make any recommendations you can. Thanks!

  2. If you're in the states and near a CompUSA then just get a program they have called "AverDVD EZMaker" which sells for about $40 USD. It has a PCI capture card in the box plus the program NeoDVD for capture/editing/authoring/burning. I use this card and it have never dropped a single frame. No TV tuner with the card but for me I could care less.

  3. starlight,
I'm always in favour in keeping these TV tuners separate from the video card function. With the range of solid 2D & 3D cards on the market to fit every budget, there is really no need to bundle the two.

To this end I'll recommend the Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP tuner card which is quite stable and comes with software that comes with an array of stuff (time-shifting, scheduled recordings, ability to capture to your HD in a variety of formats, etc). FM tuner is a nice touch also.

  4. Are those cards standalone? I don't have a separate video card to use.. like I want a video card and the tuner in the same card.. the ideal price range would be around $150-200 if there are any good cards for that price with those features. I don't really care for gaming because I don't play anything.. just good picture and audio is good enough for me. I liked the Matrox G400 but I thought there'd be something better out now.. how is Asus?
