  1. my iuVCR (latest version) doesn't recognize huffyuv. I tried all methods (including nimo codec package) but it doesn't work!

I can see codec is installed (from hardware / video codecs)
    virtual dub doesn't recognize also..

When I installed snowshifter, it installed full version of picvideo mjpeg codec and I used it a lot (good alternative, if you don't use huffyuv)

    now picvideo mjpeg doesn't work.

    it says
unable render capture graph for current settings
    bla bla bla.

it tells same thing for WMV codecs and stuff

I also tried install Morgan Mjpeg 2000 codec (based on Jpeg2000!). it installed, but neither virtualdub or iuvcr recognize it.

What am I supposed to do?
I have divx5.03 and xvid and VP3 codec installed. Nothing much.

  2. hello,

well, someone having the same trouble i have... i'll tell you what's going on with my computer. i've been using iuVCR for capturing. it seems to me a very good capture program (no frames dropped vs. frames being dropped in virtualdub). virtualdub is VFW so huffyuv works ok and so does mjpeg (i've tried it again a few minutes ago. it works) i had been using huffyuv codec for capturing with iuVCR but no i wanted to use mjpeg. however iuVCR does not seem to "understand" mjpeg because i get the same compression ratio as with huffyuv. 20 GB free allows about one hour of recording with huffyuv (with my settings). under virtualdub and mjpeg i get nearly four hours. when i use mjpeg with iuVCR i get just one hour!!!

i've tried to use the Avermedia drivers. nothing.
    free WDM drivers. nothing.

i think the problem has to do with iuVCR using WDM and mjpeg using VFW so they don't work together but i'm not sure about it.

please, anyone who can help us!

    greetings,

    sunmanking

  3. I found that error lines appear because onboard sound card.
I gotta get another soundcard and disable it.

    Anyway,

    I tried WinDVR2 from intervideo.com
it is much better than PowerVCR2 3.0 Pro from gocyberlink.com
I can capture 768x576 without problems (much less error lines, almost none!) with watching full screen! Thats amazing!

I keep MPEG2 bitrate high to get quality capture. Later I'll encode them with tsunami but tsunami doesn't recognize its format

I can play it with windows media player (by using a freeware mpeg2 codec) but tsunami doesn't read windvr mpeg2 format...

I am using WINDVR2 as well and like it. Although the max. audio rate is 224, where the AverStudio goes to 384 at 48K Hz. Don't know if this matters much. I am wondering how much better WINDVD recorder is than WINDVR2, I see a new guide mentioning WINDVD recorder.

You can use TMPGenc to encode (re-encode?) MPEG-2, you need a plug-in I guess it is called. I have done a few and it works. I basically let the wizard pick the settings, sometimes cut the commercials in the clip portion before encoding, and mask the line of noise at the top of the video. Encode to M2v and MP2, then author with Ifoedit. Or you can take your high bitrate MPEG-2 into an author program such as MyDVD, Neo? and make files that may be too large for DVD and then use DVD2One, to get it to fit. I have tried the 2nd route and it works pretty good, less time than TMPGEnc, except I haven't found an easy program to cut the commerials out of the MPEG-2 before authoring.

If you set the max. file size high (what I did, if you have NTFS file system) you won't get multiple MPEG-2 files, if you do get multiple MPEG-2 files (long capture) you can frameserve them in DVD2AVI (it doesn't show MPG or MPEG as an option when opening, but select all files and it works, if you rename to MPG extension and make the names sequential, it automatically finds the rest as well, just open the 1st file). Then you can create a project file and demux an MP2 audio file, which can then be used in TMPGenc. Framserving with DVD2AVI is pretty quick. I haven't been able to frameserve AVI files in VirtualDUB yet though, and DVD2AVI doesn't work with AVI files.

I use IUVCR, and capture to huffyuv and MJPEG without issue. This is in NTSC, and NOT using the tweaked drivers. Are you usre you have huffyuv installed and not a directshow filter?

  6. I use Latest aver drivers, not tweaked ones.
I don't see any differance with tweaked drivers. Maybe %5-10 cpu utilization.

I installed huffyuv by right clicking inf file then install. But I also tried Nimo codec pack. Don't know if its DS filter or not. But probably its not a DS filter, since it doesn't appear on list (iuvcr)

Can you tell me how can I fix that?
Also I would like to use MJPEG2000 codec (loseless). I installed it, but it doesn't appear in list too

  7. hello,

i've solved the problem. maybe the iuvcr installation was corrupted. i installed it again and THIS TIME i have used iulabs tweaked drivers. iuvcr NOW does recognize pic mjpeg codec!!! wow!!!

gazorgan, can you please explain me the difference (in general terms) between VFW codecs, WDM codecs and DS codecs? I have a mess and don't know what the difference is among them.

    thank you in advance,

I installed IuVCR first then Huffy under XP Pro SP1 and it works great. You should try uninstalling both, clean out the registry for anything the uninstall leaves behind, which most of the time is everything.

    Install IuVCR first then Huffy.

VFW is Video for Windows. This is the older protocal used for audio/video sources. It has a number of limitations in it. WDM is the new protocal for audio/video and has a number of benefits.

VDUB uses VFW drivers. It's one of the reasons you get stuck at 320x240/288 when capturing. You need high res VFW drivers (good luck finding them) to capture higher, or the WDM wrapper ( it is like VFAPI, it translates WDM into VFW so VDUB can use it).

Just about all the new devices come with WDM drivers, as M$ is using it as the new standard. I guess you can say VDUB is a little behind the times in this aspect.
