  1. I've had my Pioneer a04 for a while now, burnt countless disks with little problems. About a month ago for some reason movies burned with Nero would n't work on my stand alone player(Apex 1500 that plays just about everything.) So I switched to Record now. Worked great, never did figure out why Nero was broken, was taking too much time to figure out.

Then 3 days ago I decided to give the a04 hacked firmware a try. It supposely lets you burn cheap media at 2x. I upgraded and tested it. First test was picture perfect. Second test was the exact same dvd-video files, same media and it skipped alot. After that I decided it wasn't worth risking semi-expensive media to save 30 mins of burn time and burned everything at 1x. Today I go to burn something with RecordNow and it gives me an error saying it can't use the current disk(same media I've been using for weeks.) I try another one fresh out of the box and I get the same messsage. I try a different brand and get the same error. The error is very non-specific, but it says to try a different brand or try cleaning the disk. The disk is spotless. Out of curiousity I try Nero again, it burns but same mistake as before. And instant copy won't burn it either(had an old PDI files from IC7 and went to see if it would burn it..

I begin to think its the firmware so I downgrade to 1.31 and then upgrade back to the official 1.40. After doing that I try RecordNow again and get same error. It seems like it might be the drive. Did I break it with the hack firmware? Or did it break on its own? or is this all software issues?

I can burn with Nero fine but it doesn't work on my stand alone, I'm trying to now to burn it as adata disk and importing the Vid and Audio files, maybe that will work. I just need someway to burn my dvd's! Seems I'm about to be on the short list of dvd burner software. What to do if Nero doesn't work and Record Now doesnt? Anyone have this problem before? if so did they find a solution or is my dvd-r broken for good?

  2. hi,
I had the same error on record now max,
Re starting the PC before & after every burn cured it.

Sounds software related, try re-installing your software.

record now will not burn a video disc (whether you choose data or not) that will result in an unplayable disc, so perhaps the file that you are trying to burn has an error of some kind (this happens from time to time when I use dvddec. then ifoedit, I have always solved the problem by redoing the process w/ dvd2one rather than ifoedit). Change the name of the file from VIDEO_TS to something else and it will burn, test it w/ a rw disc. If it works then you know that the problem is in the file.

Althought at first this problem was a pain in the a$$ but looking back in hind sight, this feature saved me a lot of coasters.

  6. try getting a copy of vob instant cd or just even make an image of one of your working dvd's with dvddecryptor & burn it & see if that works in your stand alone.. lets just say nero is the devil & he likes to burn U for money & if it works on the pc it shouldve worked on the stand alone.. I cant burn anything properly with nero thats why I wont use it, vob instant cd/dvd for me or dvddecrptor.. on abou the firmware thing... cheap disks R cheap disks & will never ever work 100% at 2 speed thats why they R cheap & for the extra few coins for a 2 speed disk is it worth it
