When i use the wizard to select NTSCfilm 'inverse telecine' takes ages to convert b4 encoding begins.
However when i select the NTSCfilm template 'inverse telecine' does not appear and the encoding starts straight away.
What difference is there between the wizard and template?

When you select the template then Tmpgenc will do 3:2 pulldown when playback encode, Which means it encodes the film in a way that tells the dvd player to convert from 23.976 to 29fps just for playing back the movie.
When you check the box and select inverse telecine you are telling Tmpgenc to do a hard 3:2 pulldown actually converting the movie to 29fps
Hope this helps BM -
Good info.. Is there any difference, i.e., is one 'superior' to the other, in which method you use?? thanks in advance.

Especially if it seems to be taking longer, Just use the NTSC film template
You wont effect the quality either as there both just the same thing done in a different way -
Oh yeah
And if you use the template you will see under the video tab next to encode it says 3:2 pulldown when playback
DONT ever select 3:2 pulldown under the advanced tab aswell
One or the other only -

Not sure whether it was just me looking for problems but using the TEMPLATE the film seemed to be NOT as Smooth as when the wizard converted with 'inverse telecine'(although took about an hour longer)
Could someone please let me know if there is a difference in using the 2 methods or is it just me being to critical and trying to find a difference.
I'm trying this same method with another film to see if it's the same.

I don't quite understand
use the wizard to select the template ?
If your source is divx avi then most people here will recomend that you select the source as 1:1 monitor, no matter what the source fps, Pal or Ntsc
But i have alway found this to cause playback problems ( Jerkyness ) so i always used to select the template that matches the source format eg NTSC film for 23,976fps
i nerver used inverse telecine ( Hard pulldown ) and never encountered any problems with playback -

I just thought between the 2 options (Wizard & Template) that the wizard created a smoother playback.
As i said though it may well of been me just looking for a difference and expecting to see a better copy due to the time 'inverse telecine' took. -
Yes, I get the same result. I think that the Inverse Telecine cleans up the product and then sets new flags for 3:2 pulldown.
The original 23.976 may be a bit off.....you dont need much .....and that will cause the jerk.
I use the wizard now and it seems better. You also notice the results while playing in power dvd.
