Hello there,
I am converting an xvid using virtual dub and framserving to tmpgenc. For once everything works fine, picture fine, audio fine, however the picture jerks every five or so seconds, not majorly but enough to annoy, do you have any recommendations on how I can combat this. The original file is perfect.
Thanks a lot![]()

you're lucky, I can't even get Vdub to frameserve to TMPGEnc...... just freezes.
Time's not wasted when you're wasted all the time. -
Are you sure you're using the same frame rate in TMPGEnc as in the original AVI?

Matt,
I am new to this whole framserving lark. So I open the file is virtual dub check what the frame rate is, set up the whole framserving bit and then go to tmpgenc open up the file and then......how do I change the frame rate ?
Thanks a lot -
If you're using one of TMPGEncs wizards, this is determined by what template you choose: PAL is 25fps, NTSC is 29.97 fps and NTSC Film is 23.976 fps
If you're not using a template, you set this by clicking the Settings button, and use the Frame rate drop down on the Video tab.
This has nothing to do with wether you're frame serving or not. The same applies even if you open the AVI in TMPGEnc.

I got all the info on framserving from a guide. Can I open the frameserving file in one of the tmpgenc wizards ?, the guide did not say if that was possible.
Thanks a lot for all your help -

Haven't actually tried (that I can remember), but I see no reason why it shouldn't work.

Thanks a lot I am at work at the moment but I will let you know when I get home.
Thanks again and have a great weekend. -
I screwed with xvids for weeks before i got it to work.
Framserve the xvid out of vdub, then encode in TMPGEnc at 29.97. And make sure you dont set the bitrate too high. Yes, thats right, too high. If there is a higher bitrate than is needed to maintain quality, you will get some intermittent freezing like that.
At least, this is how I do it. I know everyone has their own pet method that works and all others are crap. -
this is kind of strange...
I notice that a lot of people have problems with XVID sources.
I've not had a single issue with them.
It might have to do with the fact that I use avisynth to frameserve them.
something for you guys to think about...what are you askin' me for...
