  1. How do I convert my widescreen divx to a fullscreen vcd without having the image streched? My dvd player won't allow me to play vcd's in letterbox, and they look streched out.

  2. You have to add black bars on top and bottom to go from widescreen to 4:3 screen. You can do this with TMPGenc.

  4. You have your DVD settings on enhanced letterbox setting for a widescreen TV, set it back to 4:3 normal setting and letterbox video will play back fine with the black bars at top and bottom.

  5. I don't know how to add the black boxes. I looked on TMPGenc, and couldn't find it. I tried to play it as regualr on my TV, but it streches the video. Please help me out here.

I want a fullscreen movie, if the source is in WideScreen and you want it to be in FullScreen you just select under Advanced under Video Arange Method: No margin(keep aspect ratio) and TMPGEnc will then cut left and right so it will fit FullScreen.

But if you want widescreen VCDS you should follow our tmpgenc guide.

AND ALWAYS BEFORE ENCODING WITH TMPGENC use the preview to see how it looks like...so will it look like on the TV.

  8. OK, thank you. I am still interested in the black box method, which seemingly would allow me to watch it in widescreen without losing the edges of the movie.

  9. If you use VirtualDub, add the resize filter and place a checkmark in the 'expand frame and letterbox image' and choose a new height (set width the same as original), so you get a correct 4:3 picture size. Leave fill color black and encode or frameserve.

In TMPGenc you can use the clip frame filter.
Set the heigth in the video tab higher, so you get 4:3 dimension and choose 4:3 display. If you have for example a 704x396 widescreen, set the size to 704x528. In the advanced tab set 16:9 display. Now in 'clip frame' go to 'arrange setting' and choose arrange method 'Center'.
In Mask Color you can choose the color the added 'bars' will be.

    Good luck.
