  2. since you are quite vaugue in your post...

    1. the a04 is a very good drive ( I have both a03 and a04 ). Both will burn backs up fine..

provided you ripped them properly ( see guides )

and you use decent media.. that's probally the biggest issue right there. I use 2x rated media no namers ( DVD Decryptor identifies them as TDK, but I doubt that theyare since TDK posted a news flash on there web site about Princo and one other manufactuere making 2x media with TDK headers on the discs so the A04 accepts them as 2x and burns them as such, so far the media has performed very well. I get mine from www.finodisc.com ( usally I see them at the swapmeets and buy them there ). I have had other cheaper media that has been really bad ( perfomrance wiser and burnwise ). As for Nero I no longer use it for my DVD-R burns ( I use Stomp's Record Now Max v 4.5 ) due to unexplained errors, allthough I am current at release 5.5.10.7. Supposedly they have adressed the problem with the DVD-R side.

  4. here is what I do for 1:1 back ups...

if the movie is under the magic 4.3 Gb.. I use DVD Decryptor and rip all the files in the VIDEO_TS... and then burn back with Record Max Now.. some people rip all the files to an ISO format and then burn back with.. ( name your program, Nero ect.. I still use Record Max Now to burn DVD ISO images ).

If it over 4.3 Gb and you do not want to transcode and re author then try Pinnacle's Instant Copy v 7.0 ( and then do update and get all the cool little add on programs out there wrtitten by 3rd parties for it ). The quality is not bad but it not the same as doing it your self, though it is much simpler.
