This has puzzled me since I began burning my home movies to DVD...
Why is the DVD-R media (and DVD+R) not rated like CD-Rs? If you go to buy a CD-R, it clearly states "compatible with 1x to 32x", or whatever.
I see questions in here all the time wondering how someone knows what speed the media they are bying is. Why is DVD media not packaged the same way?

Hi,
Most branded DVDs do display their capabilities on the front. Most do not say 1x -> cause the fastest out is 4x!
Most retailers on the net say the speeds that they can write at. i suppose if your buying discs in builk you take the risk.
