Okay this seems like a really stupid question but I have an old computer that I'm looking to upgrade the ram on. The manual says it will accept PC2700 and PC3200 ddr ram.

My question is if I already have a stick of PC2100 ram will it work in that pc? Meaning can I place PC2100 ram in a computer that says it needs PC2700

  2. it usually only works the other way. newer ram will work in slightly older spec motherboards. it's the same format ram - pins and voltage but it may be too slow to boot. it won't hurt anything to try but......

a gb of 3200 is about $20 after rebate at newegg.

If you have PC2700 memory in your PC and you add a stick of PC2100 the PC will by default run @ the lower speed of PC2100, technically the pc will be slower, but probably not noticeably

Now with more ram if your PC was running short on ram and accessing the swap drive (virtual memory) continuosly you will now see a vast improvement in performance as your PC will not exhibit "disk thrashing"

if this is a backup PC go ahead and add the PC 2100, if this PC is your main PC invest $20USD for the right speed memory like minidv2dvd suggests
