  1. I have been trying to backup Spy Kids 2 for the last week and I am extremely frustrated.

The problem is that the DVD-R play fine all the way through until about Chapter 17 or so. It freezes and also I cannot skip to the next chapter after certain chapter and when I fast forward, it freezes also. This only happens in the last few chapters. VERY VERY ANNOYING!!!!

    This is what I did:

I ripped the DVD using Decrypter and only ripped the movie files (VOB's, and VTS_01_0.IFO associated with the main movie).

Then I moved the VTS_01_0.IFO to a temp folder to copy the subtitle colors later.

Then with only the VOB's in my folder, I used IfoEdit to create IFO. After it's done I open the original IFO to copy the sub color and paste to the new IFO. And that's it. The movie itself is around 4.3 GB so it fits nicely.

I proceeded to use NERO and burnt that using DVD Video template.

The movie as I said before runs thru more than 3/4 of the entire movie without any issues on my Pioneer 525. Then it freezes at a specific point all the time. The same point. Also, I noticed that I can't skip to next chapter at around chapter 13 which is a few chapters before it freezes.

Had anyone ran into a similar issue? I am 100% sure it's not the media as I tried using the bundled DVD-RW 1X that came with my Cendyne drive, also on a Pioneer 2X DVD-RW, and on True 2X DVD-R media (Princo) and they all have the same issue and same point it freezes.

I also don't think it's the DVD player because I can actually play the movie. It just stops after chapter 17. I also tried it on my buddy's Sony 5-disc DVD player and same issue. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING AND ANNOYING!!!

Did I say VERY VERY ANNOYING?

Maybe it's a stupid question. Gonna try to bump and hope someone can help.

  3. I would just use DVD2one or DVDX Copy and burn with RecordNow Max or the burner in DVDX Copy, works every time.

  4. I had the same problem using the True 2x (Princo). Would work until about 90% of the movie. Now using Ritek 4x and have had 100% success with first spindle of 25. If you have a lot of the other disks left try to set your final size to around 4 gig. I used up the last of my Princo's this way and most worked fine. Also burn at 1x with these discs.

  6. Thank you for all those who replied. I really don't think it's the media issue as I have tested this using the bundled DVD-RW that came with my drive and also on Pioneer Branded 2X DVD-RW and also on the Princo and they all stop at the same point.

The reason why I didn't need to run it through DVD2ONE or IC7 is because the main movie fits in one DVD-R. So to avoid compressing I decided to only rip the main movie VOB files and have IfoEdit create the IFO and BUP's. I think either IfoEdit is not creating the correct IFO files or there must be some issue with the VOB file ripped.

Beintot - did you ended up keeping the original Ifo or did you created new Ifo since you ripped the movie using Ifo mode? Can you elaborate a little bit on your ripping method for this movie?

If I have to, I will try to re-rip the movie but this time with all the extras and run it through IC7 but I really really really need to know if there is an issue related to IfoEdit when creating Ifo's.

  7. jxsam, it almost definitely sounds like a media issue. If you are saying that the same problem occurs on your RW, then that seems kind of strange. Here is what you should do though...test the last two vobs..or probably the LAST vob with POWERDVD and get to the part where it freezes on your burned disks. See if there are any playback issues around chapter 17 doing this. If not, then it's almost certainly a media issue. However, after glancing at your method again, it seems like you are not backing up that particular movie properly.

I don't have that movie, and proabably never will..but I'd be willing to bet it probably isn't much longer then 90 minutes, and it probably fits on a DVD-R either by being a DVD-5, or more likely, by stripping out extras such as additional subs, etc. You are doing all that "subtitle" color and everything else which is more trouble then it's worth. You should be letting IFOEdit just strip the other stuff out and by selecting the subs you want, it will process them for you WITHOUT going through the trouble you are going through. It seems like your backup method is flawed.

  8. When I first started burning DVD-R, they would have problems in my player near the last 20 minutes or so of the movie, but played fine on my pc. I discovered it was because I was labelling my discs, I guess my player had a problem with the altered weight or balance. I copied these to unlabelled discs, now they play perfectly. Just a thought. I backed up Spy Kids 2 with both DVD2One (movie) and InstantCopy (full) and both play fine now.

  9. Thank you all for replying.

I am 100% sure it's not the DVD-R as I mentioned before, I tried it on several different media to test this and the same part freezes. I appreciate your comments though.

I think I'm giving up on this issue and I'll just re-rip this again in it's entirety. The movie itself is about 4.3 GB and the extra features pushes over the single DVD-R threshold. That is why I ended up just ripping the movie VTS series and have IfoEdit create it. But this time, I'll rip the entire movie and then use IfoEdit to remove all the extra features.

However, I'm not familiar on how to go about removing the extras using IfoEdit. Extras as in deleted scenes, bloopers, and what not. Can someone help me on this one? Do I rip only the movie with the IFO and then use IfoEdit to fix the original IFO file?

this is what I mentioned for you to do. I figured that movie wasn't that big. Here's what you do..Open IFOEdit and select the MAIN MOVIE .IFO, whichever one DVD DECRYPTOR selects is probably it. Then hit "VOB EXTRAS" and it will lead you to a screen where you select the languages and subs you want or don't want. Select what you want, then continue..you will then be presented with your "cell id's." You can use VOBRATOR to check all of these, and there may be as few as only "ONE" cell id. Either way, SELECT ALL of them for this movie and hit STRIP....have an OUTPUT file selected on your desktop or hard drive for IFOEdit to put these output files into.

When you are done with all of this open the main movie .IFO file and click "GET VTS SECTORS." that last part is VERY important for you to be able to play the burned disk in your standalone or other players. You can also open the VIDEO_TS.IFO and select REGION FREE. Once your done with that you will be ready to burn. Open your burn program up, burn this movie, and THERE YOU GO. All ready to watch ALL CHAPTERS. Let us know how it works.

  11. Thank you defense! I knew I can count on you. :P

I think by doing it that way, I can keep the original IFO and just stip out the junk that is not necessary out of the original IFO.

I think my issue could be due to multiple cells in each chapter. In other words, I noticed that when I used DVD Decrypter to rip out my main movie via IFO, I can see that in one of the Chapters, I have two cells in it. I'm not sure whether when I used IfoEdit, I selected the wrong option to create the IFO's. I noticed this last night when I was backing up The Ring. So I just finished transcoding it and will test it out tonight but will retry Spy Kids again and do the same when using IfoEdit to create the Ifo's.

Thanks for your help though defense. I will probably start using your method as I can keep the original IFO file.

  12. no problem jxsam, that is definitely the easiest method for movies which need to have things stripped. Actually though, IFOEdit doesn't keep the original .IFO file, it recreates a Vob Set and New .ifo files based on the information you have selected, i.e stripping/ripped. Anyway, i'm glad it worked and you have yet another method in your aresenal for movies such as that one. 8)

  13. Hi jxsam,as i said i just used ifo mode for doing spy kids 2 with dvd decrypter, then after that was done i highlighted the single VIDEO_TS.ifo at the top of the main file list and ripped that.then opened ifo edit, clicked open, and selected the main VIDEO_TS. ifo for those files i extracted in ifo mode [can't remember which number ifo it was],then i clicked vob extras, strip streams and once ifo edit had done the process i clicked get vts sectors.and put the film on a blank disc with prassi.
