try ya post one more time..LOL, need more info, what kind of processor do you have, how big is the avi..what steps are you doing...general questions get general or no responses...get specific

i got windows 2000 SP2, FAT32, 128MB of ram, about 2 gig left, but i need to make vcds of all my movies, the source avi is 585,935 KB, PIII 1Ghtz, Video -->Stream Type - MPEG-1 VIDEO, 352x240, 29.97 fps, bit rate - 857 kbit/sec, VBV Buffer Size, 0 (AUTO), Motion Search (normal), ADVANCED Video Source Type - Non-Interlace (progressive), Feild - Bottom (B), Video arrange method - Full Screen (to get the letterbox full screen), Filters used - Noise Reduction, and Clip Frame, AUDIO Stream Type - MPEG-1 Audio Layer II, Bit Rate 224 kbits/sec, SYSTEM Stream Type - MPEG-1 Video-CD, Is that enough info

That does seem way to long. I've got a Tbird 1.2Ghz, using TMPGenc encoding w/ CBR takes me ~3x the movie runtime. I had a K62-500 before that it was like ~18x. If you're getting 16x something is wrong. However, I don't know what.
You can try the following:
Make sure DMA is enabled for you HD
See how many programs are running in the background (encoding is VERY CPU intensive)
Try CCE instead of TMPGenc is Althon/P3 optimized and much faster than TMPGenc. -

Personally, I use almost those exact same settings for my VCD's (excluding the "clip frame" filter) and I've found it's about 11 minutes encoding time per 1 minute of video. For your video, 17 hours 20-some minutes wouldnt suprise me - add in the clip-frame filter and your up to your 25 hours. I have a P3-550 w/384MB RAM and Win2K.
If you want faster encoding, disable noise reduction (especially noise reduction) and perhaps clip-frame. I have found that noise reduction alone increases encoding time by about 3x. Also, let TMPGEnce run a few minutes before reading its estimated time remaining - usually it decreases as it gets more precise.

Yes get rid of the noise reduction...THAT is where the time is being eaten away, plus you can get rid of the same amount of nosie through the "soften block" function...
personally I would go to CCE, its speed is vastly overrated, to get the same quality with TMPG, you have to do 3+ VBR passes with CCE, which takes the same amount of time as TMPG, so speed is really no issue when you talk about delivering quality. -
Use for motion search precision high quality instead of highest quality. It will save you some hours.
Kdiddy, do you mean you need 3 or more passes with CCE to get the same quality as 1 pass with TMPGenc?
I don't think so! you will get a far better quality if you use 3 passes with CCE. Both 1 pass will give you appr. the same quality, but CCE is so much faster. -
at the time, no I meant a 3pass CCE gave same quality as a 2pass TMPG...but I have since found a method which I can use TMPG quality settings and combine it with CCE's speed...which delivers both superb quality & spped.
-
what do you mean 3pass cce and 2pass TMPG, how do i comnine TMPG quality and CCE's Speed, any have a fast and good quality encode? How do you do that?
-
I mean 3 pass VBR mpeg-2 encoding using CCE VS. 2 pass VBR encoding using TMPG....as far what I do now...didnt come up with this on my own, was explain to me in another post on here....now I load up tmpg, set all my settings for video only that I want..and do save project which saves a .tpr file...this file contains all the info from the "video" & "advanced" tabs (which to me is where TMPG beats CCE in the quality, more options to choose from)....then I use VFAPI wrapper to make my .tpr file into a fake .avi file...load the fake .avi into CCE 2.5 (key here, I use 2.5)...I also have a patch for 2.5 that allows you to force CCE to use other Q matrix settings, but obivously I force it to use the Q matrix settings from TMPG...I set it to do this...and encode my mpeg2 file...thus I get the quality settings from TMPG and use the enocoding engine/speed from CCE...even got good quality with CBR & 1 pass VBR using this...now here is my disclaimer, this works for me and gives me the quality level I approve of..

if you have an FTP I can upload it to you...otherwise, you can try doom9.org and this site under tools..to fine them...or check other post...
-
i got the progs, but what about the patch, where can i get that? i got CCE 2.5.
-
Kdiddy, can you mail the CCE patch to me also, I also want to check it out.
If you use the same matrix settings in CCE as in TMPG, will you get exact the same quality? (and also both 2-pass VBR)
TIA

So far I have gotten equal if not better quality than TMPG using the above method..yeah I will email it you
-
hmmm, I just made my first convert and it took me 3 hours and 5 mins. I think it looks good but Im not sure since it took so long for U. I have an Athlon 1.2 512 meg ram. could it be something wrong I do. It looks nice and the sound is pretty good on the comp, havent had time to burn it to vcd yet.

TokTommy: To whom are you asking your question??
Kman: Just run the "CCE_2_50_Patcher.exe" file from the patch folder, when prompted, navigate to find your CCE 2.5 main executable file, check CCE logo off, CRC check off, & pick your Q matrix setting and when done..click patch, thats it...it wont say "ok" or "done"...it just does it, but it works..
