  1. I have converted using virtual dub and tmpg in the past..and have nimo installed.I can see the avi and hear it....but virtual dub claims no audio decompressor is available when i attempt to save a wav file.In the file info...the audio stream is listed as unknown (tag2000).Avi to Wav did not create a file that can be listened to..and remained as a 48000hz bit rate. and the file was only 195mb..the originl is 700mb ...so i figured that was no good. Any suggestions for how to create a vcd or svcd from a divx under these circumstances?

It's an AC3 audio stream. Ummmm, I think it's AVI2WAV you want? You can extract the audio as wav, change the .WAV to .AC3 and run it through headache.

Get Gspot from the Tools section under "Other Tools" and it will diagnose the required codec. Like Gazorgan says it's probably AC3 and you will need to install that codec. After that you can then extract and convert like this: https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=91588
That guide gives you two ways, you can also extract and convert using Goldwave. Load your AVI file into it then select save as... simple and easy.

Just so people aren't confused..... I think you mean rename the file from .WAV to .AC3 first, then run it through Headac3he which will produce the .WAV file.
