I have ripped over 400 DVDs to SVCD with little problems, but for the life of me I can't rip Sleepers. Smartripper, CladDVD, Dvdecrypter all see it as 1 hour & 15 minutes. The Vobs the do go on the hard Drive seem to match what is on the DVD, as far as size goes, but half of the movie is missing. Any ideas?

Are you sure its not a double sided DVD? If so then you have to flip the disk over to access the other half of the movie.

Try ripping in file mode. It should show you all of the vobs on the disk and it should be easy to tell which ones are for the movie.

  3. With Smartripper try telling it to search for a new encoding key

    "every chapter & every vob"

I've had much better luck with tough DVD's with that setup. it takes anly a few minutes longer to rip but wirth the wait.

I will try telling Smartripper to look for new keys. I am positive that it is not a double sided movie. It has standard format on one side and widescreen on the other. If anyone has any more suggestions, I would appreciate to hear more. Thanks.

  5. Whoa! It's like a curse! No sooner that I told you about the extra key searches I ran into the same problem with the movie "Like Mike". It is also a flippy DVD with widescreen on one side and 4:3 on the other.

I ripped it with the extra key searhes and it ripped just fine. I used DVD2SVCD to encode it and the problem shows up after about only 25min. of the source has been encoded in TMPGenc. The video geos blank in the encoder yet the process finishes just fine.

The only way around this problem for me today was to rip and encode the other side of the DVD. I had originally used the 4:3 side and went back to it this afternoon and did the widescreen side. This time it worked perfectly but ofcourse it is in widescreen and letterboxed.

Very strange. It is almost as if the double sided DVDs may have minor file problems that the player doesnt care about but the encoder can't handle. Not all of them are that wat but I certainly found one today.
