Hey, is there such thing a a 600 and a 600A or are they the same thing? Also can the 600/600A be macrovision/RCE/region free without physicaly changing the chip? (i.e. updates burned to a cd and upgrade that way)

If people can reply to this that would be aswome! Stay Tribal!

  2. The first AD600A models had a 'secert menu' that would could access to change the region and turn off macrovision (and CCS). Current models have a newer firmwire that 'fixed this defect'

If you are looking for a moddable Apex, the 500W is your best bet. The modchips (I'm told) are easy to install and do not require soldering.

    There's only a 600A -- no 600.

The Apex 660, if you can still find one, can be modified via CD (except for the early versions of the player -- which hopefully are no longer available -- those require a chip replacement, like the 500W). The 660 is about USD $120 at Sam's Club while the 500W is USD $98.86. If you buy a 500W, you'll have to spend at least USD $15 on a mod chip, so the price becomes about the same as a 660. Plus the 660 has much better MP3 support and can play raw MPEG files (i.e., you don't have to burn them as a VCD first.)
