I have an MPEG2 file and I need to cut about 1minute of video out of the middle. TMPGEnc does not work very well and bbmpeg can only cut the end or beginning off (ie can set a start and stop time and only on 1 second boundaries). I think womble might work but I have heard the demo will only do 7 second cuts. Any other tools that will work with mpeg2 without causing audio problems?

"M2 edit", its very good for this type of work.

  4. M2-edit to cut/edit.

Mpeg2vcr to demux/mux the cuts/edits to a SVCD Program Stream.

No A/V sync problems with this method. It took me about a month to figure it out.

why do you not just use mpeg2vcr to do the cuts too? Is it because of the 7 second limit? Or does the demo have the 7 second limit? I only need to cut 1 miute out of my mpeg2 file, can I just make several 7 second cuts?

Mpeg2vcr gave me A/V sync problems when using it to cut/edit Mpeg2 files.. M2-edit works for me with no A/V sync problems. M2-edit doesn't have a feature that allows you to mux to a SVCD Program Stream but Mpeg2vcr does.

    edit -

I should add that this works for me. Everybody may have different ways to capture/rip/encode etc so your mileage may vary. Some people have no A/V sync problems at all and do not require any special approaches.

Also, womble.com talks about how their tool supports mpeg1 and mpeg2 then you download the demo and it is only mpeg1vcr (not mpeg2vcr) so it doens't support mpeg2. You have to shell out $250 for mpeg2vcr. I found mpeg2vcr 3.00 but it crashes about 4% into the file.

So do you do the edit in that program, then demux/remux with mpeg2vcr? Can you just use bbMPEG to remux? Or do you demux, then cut/edit in that program then remux in mpeg2vcr? what version of mpeg2vcr do you use?

I edit/cut the Mpeg2 in M2-edit. I do no demux/mux prior to the editing. Then I simply use Mpeg2vcr to demux and mux the resulting cuts to a SVCD Program Stream. I use Mpeg2vcr because its really fast. bbMpeg may work and TMPG too for the demux/mux to the SVCD Program Stream. I seem to remember early on that TMPEG worked but I've been using Mpeg2vcr. I've never tried bbMPEG.

The key is to find something that will edit/cut the Mpeg2 with no A/V sync problems. The resulting cuts can probably be demux/muxed in any program that will give a SVCD Program Stream as the result.

Also I tried the A/V sync features in Mpeg2vcr to manually sync the A/V with audio offsets. Although it worked fine it turned out to be a guessing game and was really a pain. What i do now is totally automated with no guessing involved.

I guess I will just have to forget about editing the file. The demo for M2-Edit is worthless and womble only gives mpeg1vcr as a demo, and I haven't had any luck finding them, and TMPGEnc just does not work. Oh well.
