  1. Hi,

Question to all, which to you think would yield better results:

    1) Capturing 640x480 avi off of a composite source (~200 lines resolution), and then encode SVCD through TMPGENC or
    2) Let the WINDVD capture an MPEG off of a direct Coax Cable hookup (presumably 525 lines resolution) at 640x480 at 6400 kbps and then encode this mpeg as an svcd through TMPGENC (essentially this would be double encoding)

    Stretch,
Which is better depends upon comparing the two final products. However, with process 1 you did not give enough details to compare with process two in order to give any type of comparison. For example, in process two you mentioned 6400 KBs, which is presumably the mpeg encoding rate adn tmpgenc is only there to put on the proper headers etc. However, that number is missing from process 1. Thus, if you used a silly encoding value of say 1000 then I think most would opt for process 2. However, if you went with 6400 as well, then quality is in the eye of the beholder. In either case, as you mentioned double encoding will be required.
Just to many unknown variables without enough details in order to judge.

  3. Sorry about lack of details perhaps this would help,

In process one, capturing composite source as avi with Huffy codec and then encoding through TMPGENC with standard template for SVCD slightly adjusted bit rates, ~2500kbps

In process two captruing direct cable coax as MPG at 6400kbps then reencoding through TMPGENC with standard template for SVCD slightly adjusted bit rates, ~2500kbps.

    Hope this clarifies.
In essence, am I capturing more detail with direct coax (even though I would be double encoding) then with avi, at presumably lower resolution of composite source.
