  1. I have converted VCD files with TMPGEnc to DVD compatible MPEG2 files.
When I authorize one of the files with ulead movie factory it will not play in my stand alone.
When I try to authorize the same file with DVDIT I get an error message:
MPEG2 NTSC video with a resolution of 352x240 must have progressive sequence turned on.

Anyone that have an idea of what is wrong with the file

  2. In the settings of your encoded movie under "GOP Structure" the "output interval of sequence header" should be set to one and "Max number of frames in a GOP header"should be set to 18 or less. 15 and 12 are good choices.

  3. Many thanks for your answer !
I am aware of that setting for GOP max 18 for NTSC and 15 for PAL and sequence haeader before each GOP.
If this setting have been the problem I guess that none of the produced files have worked.
This problem only occurs in 10% of the files.

Why? VCD Video is compliant with DVD as it is, no need to re-encode. What you must do somewhere along the line is convert the audio from 44.1khz to 48khz sampling rate. I believe DVD Workshop will do this for you.

Oh, and I think the VCD's must be 29.97fps for NTSC, 23.97fps is NOT dvd compliant and mpeg-1 does not support 3:2 pulldown.

Anyway, try simply importing one of your VCD mpegs in to DVD WS and see what happens.

  5. Yes, to use DVD WS is also a possibility. I have tried this method too but unfortenately is the result that DVD WS very often locks up.

The main question was what was wrong with the MPEG 2 file, and if there is a way to fix it.
Why does TMPEGenc sometimes generate a file that is not DVD compatible ?

Just a guess, but when encoding with TmpGenc, on the video tab of the settings dialog, make sure encode mode is set to Non-Interlace. See if that helps.

  7. Yes, I have the setting non-interlace.
I think that this maybe is a bug in TMPGEnc. I have checked the file with birate viewer and the file looks normal.
The problem can be that TMPGEnc not have generated a sequence header before the GOP. A program where it is possible to see all the headers in the file would have been nice.
By the way thanks for your suggestions.

A guess here again, but have you checked the Source aspect ratio in Advanced settings in Tmpgenc? I have had some similar problems if it is set to 4:3 525 line (NTSC). Select 4:3 or 4:3 625 lines (PAL).
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  9. I think I have just realized what the problem is. You are taking VCD at 352*240 (npeg-1 and re-encodeing it to mpeg-2 at 352*240. Unfortuantley, if you look here: https://www.videohelp.com/dvd you will see this resolution is NOT supported for mpeg2 on DVD. It must be mpeg-1.

  10. Bugster !
Are you sure that CIF format not is DVD compatible when it is in MPEG2.
I have tried Sonic MYDVD DVDIT ULEAD MF and they all accept this file format.
    This is maybe another issue.
My question was what was wy about one of ten converted files with the same settings in TMPEGnc not is playable in my stand alone and generate an error in Ulead MF.
