ok all conversion programs that i tried to convert an avi to mpg have either frozen up the computer or caused a blue screen in xp home. i know the audio rate of the avi is the wrong format 22hz. so i extracted the audio to .wav using virtualdub & made sure the conversion rate was set to 44hz. i then loaded up tmpgenc entered the avi location & for audio i entered the .wav location at 75% the computer froze up. i tried it again & it froze at 2%.
i also tried panasonic standalone encoder 2.51 & about 2min into conversion the computer froze up.
i tried lsx mpeg encoder 3.5 & when i selected the file i wanted to convert to mpg it gave me an error saying "audio stream has unsupported format. this program only accepts pcm audio format." which i already knew about however it still attempted to convert the file, but about 1min into the precess it caused a blue screen.
i tried main concept encoder & during the encoding the computer froze up.
computer spec's
amd athlon(tm)
996mhz
368mb ram, xp home.
??? what else can i do.

Scan the DivX for bad frames with VirtualDub, and remove those if needed.
Extract the audio, but do a direct stream copy. VirtualDub will create ???.wav, but just rename this to ???.mp3
Then convert this to wav (CDEX is good and simple at this). Load this wav in some sound editor like GoldWave or Sound Forge, and convert the fq to 44100 and save.
Now, use the "cleaned" AVI as video source and your 44.1 kHz WAV as audio source.
