I have a Panasonic RV-32 and it's a piece o' poo. What do you guys recommend that plays DVD-R VERY WELL and has little to no glitches when it plays a movie. My RV-32 has a bad time reading Predator II dvd-copy yet my DVD-RW plays it fine. Other movies play well but I had another glitch in The Hunt for Red October. I am going to swap this RV-32 and get another brand. What do you recommend? Sony? JVC?

Sony DVP-NS715P which is a newer player. It will play DVD-R or DVD+R just fine. It sells for about $145 at BestBuy in the states.

Ya know, I have a Pioneer DV-525. Damn thing played DVD-R's and DVD+R's. Then, one day, it decided it wouldn't play DVD+R's anymore, just DVD-R's... Shortly after that, it went ahead and decided not to play DVD-R's either. Keep in mind these were the exact same disks that originally played in the machine, not newly created DVD+/-R's. Now the thing plays originals only...
Then I got an APEX 1200W from walmart for $60. I haven't had a hiccup since... One thing, while it's reading the menu, the player makes alot of noise. Oh, and another... my wifey thinks it's "ugly" and doesn't want it showing in our entertainment center. LOL
Has anyone heard if the $79 Toshiba at Best Buy any good? I need another for the bedroom..
Thanks

The RCA model rc5240p. Plays everything I have put into it. vcd's, svcd's,
dvd-r's. vcd's are on memorex cd-r's. Bought a second one off e-bay for my computer room. -
I throw my vote in with Sony....in particular the DVP-NS315 if you dont have an HDTV...

@ElQueso2
Maybe it's the media you're using.
I have a Panasonic 360 and never had glitches during playback.
Friends of mine have an RV-20 and RV-32, no problems with same discs.
I'm using :
-R: Verbatim 2x, Nashua 1x
+R: TDK 2x, Philips 2x
+RW: TDK, Philips, Sony
... all without any problems.
Princo, Memorex/Khypermedia and so forth are know for being bad media, giving reading errors halfway the disc.

MrSnake:
I am using memorex currently until my Ritek discs arrive...
Anyway, I just tried Predator II in the Panasonic player. I skipped ahead to the part where it had messed up before and NOTHING happened. The movie played just fine. This is odd... maybe the player has problems towards the end of movies after it plays for an hour and a half. Maybe it is overheating or just a pos. I think I will buy the Sony player... -

Progressive has nothing to do with this matter.
The man said it himself, he's using Memorex media which is known for its problems.
Ofcourse, it's always possible if a player tuns out to be bad, but the RV-32 model is very capable of playing DVDR media.
I know that for a fact coz I have played lots of DVDR on the RV-32.
Note: Reading errors do not always occur 100% on the same locations over and over.
I'd try other, more reliable media first, before spending money on another DVD player, but that's just me

If the pos is having read errors then it's having read errors. It matters not if YOU do not have these problems with YOUR unit. I will take it back and get another one, I have 30 days to do so.

Progessive scan iz leet for my tv, it had nothing to do with the problem. -
I have read some reports on the RV32 having problems playing discs after 60-70 mins which happened with me twice. Predator II started to goof up at 65 mins and The Hunt for Red October at 75 mins. I think I will return this unit and get the Sony 715.

I got a Panasonic XP30 and I'm very happy with it so far...no problems playing mp3, vcd or dvd-r disks. Paid 149.99 plus shipping online.

I have an rv-32 and it plays all my dvd-r fine...ritek, memorex, maxell and pinoneer disc..never have problems with it...In the past I did have problems with my burned dvd-r disc using nero..it pauses, skip and pixelate but after I switch to recordnow max everything is fine
just my .02 cents -
APEX 1500. Its one of the most versitile players out. I've been able to play everything ranging from xvcds to raw mpeg files. Oh and theres hacks out there to make it region free and macrovision free. It does have its flaws though, the front panel doesn't have much buttons and the remote is crappy. The buttons are small and you have to aim it directly at the remote sensor to be able to control it. Its inexpensive also(around $70).
