  1. I'm trying to insert .avi files into ulead dvd movie factory to be converted to .mpg and then burned as a VCD. I am having a problem with some of the files i downloaded. It says unable to open file or file reading error on some of the files, but some go in just fine.
I don't understand why it says this. On one file i tried using tmpgenc to convert it out again as an .avi file (originally 28mb) and that made it like 3.8 gb, then it loaded fine into dvd movie factory but when i played it in ulead it just plays to 4:41 but it is a 8:12 movie. Anyone know why it isn't working? Thanks in advance.

You might not have the right codec's installed for the avi's your trying to convert.

Grab Gpsot from the Tools section on the left, load up your Avi in that and that will tell you what codec's you need.

Failing that there could be something wrong with that avi, and although it plays ok in WMP, when it come's to converting whatever is wrong with it, is the problem.

You could always use TMPEGnc to convert the avi to MPEG2 then use Movie Factory to author it.

Also one last thing, i'm not sure that Ulead Movie Factory will let you convert avi's to Mpeg, I know that Movie factory 2 does

I figured ULead MF would install all the codecs for me.

I will give this a shot. Thanks for the help!
