  1. If you have problems with audio syncronization in DVD Workshop, post here. I would like to make a collection of problems and circumstances this may arise in. I see that many people seem to have this issue, but I have yet to even get a clue as to why it is happening. It's really irritating me, particularly because I KNOW that the video and the audio I am using are synced (I had authored w/ IfoEdit to verify), and DVD Workshop is doing no re-encoding, yet I have come up out of sync about 15 times (burning at 1x this has wasted an enormous amount of my time).

Please post here and bitch to your heart's content.

  2. hi
i've been poking around and reading everything on this site for a long while and have had sync problems with ulead (both workshop and mf2)
I think i have the problem licked (converted several movie serials and some tv shows from vcd to dvd)
    here is what i'm doing:
    1. ripping the mpg form the dat file with iso buster
    2. converting the file in tmpgenc to normal vcd video but the audio to 48k 224
3.DON"T rip the sound out and convert it and then multiplex it. this seems to be where ulead goes goofy on me.
    4. then in ulead set the "disc template" to match the specs of the files you made from tmpgenc.
for example: if you have mpeg files that are 320x240 with mpeg layer II auido at 48k 224, tell the ulead that is what it is to convert the files to. Check the "don't convert complient files box"

in movie factory 2 (what i used to make all my dvds this week) it will still takes a while to convert, but it no longer screws the sync up.
i don't burn in ulead, just make a folder set
i then check the folders in my computer's dvd player, burn it to a dvd and check it in my stand alone dvd player.
so far i'm 7 for 7. no sync and the picture quality is about the same as or a little better than my vcd.
I know vcd isn't the greatest but when even a good copy of "the crimson ghost" is ok at best, i don't feel much is lost by craming 4.5 hours onto one dvd.
besides you always seem to be stuck with the quality of the source any way (at least without hours and hous of encoding and re-encoding, unless i'm missing out on something).

I hope those of you you are trying to convert vcds to dvds via ulead find this to work (it would stink if it is a fluke for me). And please forgive me if I just wasted time spouting common knowledge.
This has been bugging me to no end and over the last 3 weeks i've spent insane amounts of time trying to fix it.

  5. i just reinstalled dmf2 in order to experiment with it...I mainly use DVD complete or DVDit. The only way that I've been able to get this prog to work without a sync issue or a "drag" in the video was to convert things to mpg1 with TMPGenc. I don't know if it works better because the files are smaller...typically under or around 2 gig, but its worked on the 4 DVD+RWs that I've tried it with.
Some people like to gamble, but you always lose...

I found nearly all tmpgenc encoded mpeg-2 DVD file with audio rate > 192kbit/s will generate sync problem with MF.The mpeg alone plays fine, but after authoring you'll end up with progressive out of sync.
If I encode the same avi with ULEAD MS, everything is fine.
If I encode the tmpgenc mpeg with ifoedit, the vobs are in sync, but I haven't found any way to burn a DVD+R out of the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS files.Tried Nero,RecordNow ->coasters.And hints?

  7. ive encoded using canopus procoder and got the same sync problem after ulead finished all its converting so its not an exact tmpeng problem...if thats any help lol...im reinstalling dvdmf2 now and try some experimenting.

  8. bluess227, you can just rename a .dat to .mpg, but you will have unwanted file headers left over that may affect re-encoding.

affect it in what way???ive done this plenty of times and authored with spruceup without a problem and never had any sync issues its only when ulead is done encoding/decoding??

but if what u say is true then thats definitely news to me and might be 1 of the problems on why i get audio out of sync...but im almost sure its ulead...

to bad spruceup didnt have better menu features...

  10. This is immensely frustrating. It doesn't seem to be a bitrate issue, as I have another DVD that made use of a vid file encoded at 9334kbit/s. Incidently it is also about 40min longer. And it works fine.

My gut feel tells me that DVD Workshop has no idea how to properly mux video and audio. I think maybe a monkey made that section of the app. I dunno...

in Nero, choose DVD-Rom(UDF), drag and drop the VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders and burn (to be safe, use UDF 1.02 as file system)

I don't thing RecordNow will, but I do believe RecordNowDX will: options>file system = Joliet 106.....do it with a DVD-RW as a test

I tried exactly that with DVD+RW and DVD+R (same settings).
ResultsVD+RW gives BAd Disk on the player, but plays fine in PC
DVD+R i sloaded, but stays on ch 01/tr01 0000 and stops afetr some time, can't be played as DVD on the PC but the vobs played fine.

I getting crazy about this.Is ULEAD MF the only way for DVD+R to go?

did you de and re multiplex the files? i had no luck until i stopped doing that.

just dump the entire file in to tmpegenc.

a few more points i forgot about:
my files have been between 18-30mins long. with ulead i would notice a sync loss at about 19-20mins into the file. but again using my stumbled upon method nothing has gone wrong yet.
i just got done watching about 95% of a dvd with 13 28 min shows on it and no sync issue.
sometimes the video jumps but i blame that on my dvd player (has issues with all manner of burnt media)
if you let ulead to all the encoding the sync seems to be fine most of the time. seems to be a gamble though.....
maybe ulead hates sloppy seconds, as it were?
i really think it's a goofy quirk in the software and there has to be a way around it.

  14. oh one more thing i forgot
from everything i read here this isn't supposed to work, but it does
i did this out of pure ignorance and if anyone can explain the what what, thanks in advance.
when i burn my TS folders i use record max now and make a data dvd.
they play fine so far in the dvd players in my home.

Which version of RecordNow are you using.I've tried the 4.0 trial, but it didn'tt let me burn a VIDEO_TS folder.

  16. When you do the dump in tmpgnc for the whole file with out doing any demultiplexing and remultiplexing are you having to reencode the video also. This is what i am trying to avoid but i am havig the same problems with ulead. It just seems whe i let it reencode the video i get quality issues.

  17. I have not had any issues in DVD Workshop when I mux the audio and video together in TMPGEnc 5.10 before adding the file to DVD Workshop.

  18. My problems with dvd workshop seem to be a little different. I am trying to burn some downloaded avi files to dvd. When I just put them into Dvd Workshop and let it do all the encoding, I get audio sync problems. What happens when I play the files back (after encoded by dvdws), it plays fine until a certain point in the video, then the audio jumps back 10 seconds, the video keeps on going, and I hear the actors repeat what they just said, which of course makes the audio out of sync. I go into more detail on this issue in a post in "newbie conversion" forum. Oh, also I've converted one of the episodes (that dvdws messed up) using Cinema Craft Encoder for the video, save wav with virtualdub, convert audio to mp2 with tmpgenc, multiplex with tmpgenc, and the multiplexed file played just fine with no audio sync problems.

Two questions. Has anybody ever seen anything like this or have any ideas on what to do? Also, is everyone in this forum talking about converting captured video or downloaded?

  19. rabiee140...that's my problem EXACTLY. I'll drop in my avi files and let dvdws do it's thing...when I get up in the morning, it's all messed up.

*audio jumps back ~15 seconds in the middle of the 30min episode and replays itself...messing up everything.

*audio will shut itself off in the middle of the 30 min episode

For the $270 that folks are paying for this, you would think that there wouldn't be many problems. I bought the darned program to AVOID these issues. I wanted to just drop in my files and let it do it's thing. Coincidentally, when I convert the avi's to mpg2's using TMPGEnc and drop them into MovieFactory, I don't have these problems...I'm using dvdws now because I wanted the extra flexability...lol...I don't see any flexability when you can't burn one dvd right.
