Sorry to be all excited but I just got a Pioneer AO5 today and backed up my first dvd..Meet The Parents using DVD Decrypter, DVD2one and COPYtoDVD. I just kept the 5.1 soundtrack and no subs.
I must say that I was quite pleased with the image quality of a DVD-9 disk compressed on to on 4.7 DVD-R. I didn't see any loss in quality on my Mitsu 65" using a Panny XP30 progressive player. Maybe my eyes aren't trained on what to notice but it looked as awesome as the original dvd to me.
Only one problem was that about 20 mins into the movie is started studdering and I got those funky colord blocks...so I have to test new media.

Make sure you rip the DVDs in file mode and use decent media like Datawrite, that works great for me.
Hope this helps.
