According to this guide, it states "Open DVDDecrypter and choose File | Mode| ISO (Warning: don't rip in File mode)". What is the reason for loading a virtual DVD(mounted ISO image) instead of loading an .ifo file from the VIDEO_TS directory? I have done this and did not have any issues. This is a great guide though.

great guide - yes - but a misunderstanding with the ISO thing. Theres absolutely no reason to do the extra step of creating and mounting an ISO file to emulate a dvd-rom. Just continue the way you are doing it now.
Use filemode and backup entire DVD to harddrive - this way you also have the option of actually working with the original ripped files if needed without having to rip them out off the iso-image.
I usually use Smartripper and just select backup - then smartripper backs up everything without me having to think about it - works all the time.
Dont start selecting only movie or what to rip when doing the first rip - keep it simple - and just decrypt everything. This way you are sure to have an exact decrypted copy of the original dvd on your harddrive - and the best workingconditions for both IC7 or dvd2one.
Usually peoples troubles with IC7 or dvd2one are caused by them not following basic rules of simplicity.
An afternote could be that I absolutely dissagree with the author of the guide when he says that quality of dvd2one compares to qualitysetting 50-60% in IC7 and that dvd2one produces macroblocks - Ive done about 20 different sized backups with dvd2one and have yet not seen a single macroblock or quality not equal to IC7
PS: one should never blindly beleive everything one reads just because someone sat down and wrote their own opinion. Over time I have authored alot of guides you can find all around the net - but that does not make the content scientific thruth. Results vary depending on a million different factors - no 2 computers are exactly alike. -
The only reason to rip in a ISO mode is some DVD Players may have trouble with handling a final output when you do a file method rip. I have found very few this pertains to but if you are one of the few you will make coasters and that is not pleasant. The ISO system does make a more compliant final output RE: some players NEED a AUDIO_TS file to play. Bottom line if the file method works for you then do not worry about using ISO I have both method guides on my site and I use FILE method with no problems. Remember one method may not work for all players

I don't know about you guys, but the only reason I rip an ISO of the DVD, it's to not use the DVD-ROM that much. I want to preserve the life of my DVD-ROM as much as possible. I rip an ISO because I can use that ISO for different tests and make guides for it hehe...
But if you gonna only use it once like for IC or DVD2ONE... Just rip it straight I guess...

Well the only way I was able to copy NTSC version of Matrix was to decrpyt to iso instead of file mode. I tried file mode 3 times on this particular movie with no luck.

I appreciate you are listening to inputs in good spirit
And i just want to make sure you know that I do think its a great guide you made - and though I dissagreed on the tiny dvd2one qualityissue that this is naturally just my personal experience.
I see your point in the missing audio_ts folder, this is needed for some dvd-players to understand a dvd-video, but I wasnt aware that was why you recommended to rip in iso-mode. I normally add the audio_ts folder myself to the final projekt unless I use NERO to burn, then NERO creates it default.
anyways - good job on the guide -
Also can anyone substantiate my belief that ISO seem to rip faster than file RE: All Files? It certainly seems so on all my systems tested, only slight but still faster?
PS: MRBASS I say great work keep it up. I know how time consuming testing and then building a one size fits all guide is. There will always be a few systems that will bend the rules. Like now I am on a linux machine, just to make the point.

@DVC2
All you offered was valid constructive critisicm which is always welcome. Thanks...were all mature around here....albeit my wife says au contraire. Anway Doggiedaddy still has that old guide which had ripping .ifo and file mode both. I incorporate his comments sometimes too as he does tons of testing, etc and has tried quite an array of other software, etc.
Ripping speed...hmm I'll do some tests but I doubt that'll matter much. If your DVD is close to 8GB...ripping speed is slow to start with and increases gradually then rips quickly. This has to do with rotational speed..just like CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) for cd-burning.
Main things still need to clear up are nail down a few of the issues that some people (minority not majority) with IC crashing on them. Also navigational issues some are having. Until then...keep wasting those DVD-Rs and testing it out for us while others and I continue to wait on getting a dvd burner...lol. -
I saw a post that the AUDIO_TS folder will be insterted if you use "standard" in the profile section. Can anyone confirm that?
Cheers,
Finley
