I'm new to this VCD stuff.

I am converting AVI files using TMPGEnc. Everytime it aborts stating problems with audio and it's always 98 or 99% complete. The resulting files play fine, but there's always a couple minutes at the end missing. I'm using the standard NTSC and PAL templates.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Do you happen to be using the 12j version ? cause i've had something similar, it didn't say anything about Audio or Video, it just got to 99% and TMPGEnc gave a crash message, but the MPG is playable upto the last second, atleast in my case.

i had a "similar" problem while batch encoding using vdub 12g, the first of two halfs of the movie "The Family Man". darn thing stopped at 99% with an application related page fault, leaving me with an MPEG that was ZERO in size!! pissed me off!! i restarted the batch encode using 12a instead and got thru both halfs with no problem.

This happens regular, especially with badly cut movie parts. It seams that the audio is a different length than the video so TEMGEnc errors as it runs out of frames.

Not had it corrupt the mpeg, but have had the 99% error lots of times. Last 3 versions for me have been the same.

Thanks for the version number advise. I'll check. It should be current because I downloaded the file about a week ago.

  8. I'm now trying to encode the same movie that failed on me 3 times with 12j, i'm encoding it with 12a, if it doesn't crash, then it's 12j that is causing all these troubles.

I have been having 99% errors too. With 12i as well
as 12j. Toolame also seems to be a related crash issue,
but it crashes very early in the conversion.

I did find that encoding groups of "chapters" (I do 4
at a time) rather than larger 1gig+ files was much more
prone to error. I don't want to go back to 12a....

  10. Interesting that 12j seems to be crashing on a lot of people. I just downloaded it, and will give it a go tonight on some Startrek Voyager VCD's

I never had a crash with 12i, so my system is very stable as far as TMPGEnc is concerned (about 80 VCD's, each with 4-6 parts have been done and no crashes attributed to TMPGEnc at all)

I must have had a combination of problems. Installed 12j and tried a new movie. Worked fine this time. I think the suggestion of "badly cut movies" hold true. Some of those movies off Morpheus are pretty poor quality.

  12. I don't think it's just badly cut movies, cause all the movies I encode are direct from a DVD rip, and i've not ever had a crash using any version of TMPGEnc untill this 12j, has anyone else had the problem with 12j using DVD rips or is everyone just encoding downloaded movies ?

I don't think its just that location that has bad movies, it seams they are everywhere. It could be when it picks up from another user just now and then. But as long as you check the movie with a program like "vdub-mp3-freeze.exe" then at leased you can eliminate that problem. There is nothing worse than encoding 80% or more and getting a crash, better to check that out first.

Also I would think it might be a good idea to load the movie into Vdub, go to the end and mark that as the end, then click back one "keyframe" and mark that as the start, then cut that out, save a new AVI using "Direct stream" then the movie will end on a Keyframe, might just fix the 99% problem !
