  1. authoring program coming with the DVD writer work out for you? Right now, I use V-dub to capture avi from satellite/vhs tapes and encode them to svcds by using CCE2.5, which works fine. Since I am thinking about getting this new Sony burner, I am just wondering if the same encoding process (CCE2.5 DVD-compliant) will work. Also, what other encoding methods will work well with the packaged authoring software coming with this burner?

    Thanks.

  2. I don't think I use any of the software that came with the Sony DRU-500A. The version of RecordNow that came with it is junk and I never got it to work.

This is definitely a weekness of the Sony drive.

I have a Sony DRU500A which I have used since Oct 2002. You have many options for authoring software:

    1. IfoEdit (will not work correctly for NTSC movies)
    2. SpruceUp
    3. DVD Masetro
    4. Ulead Movie Factory 2
    5. Ulead DVD Workshop
    many more......

I use DVD Maestro to author, DVD2DVD-R (which runs CCE 2.5) to copy DVD's that I own(going to try InstantCOPY 7 tonight) and IfoEdit to create .ISO's.

  5. I also have the SonyDRU-500A, I don't use any of the software that came with it.
    I only use EO...and ULead

    Both work great!

  6. I use the software that came with my Sony and it works. RecordNow is just a burning app, and does just that. MyDVD, the authoring software, is limited like any freebie pack-in software you'd get with anything. Crippled a little more than the pack-in DVDit! I got with my DVCII.

If you want to do real authoring, you'll have to spend money. If you just want to get something onto disc, then the included software will do just fine. If your CCE file is DVD compatible, then there should be no problem with MyDVD software.
