tried them all but still no luck-some Companies have the oem version but Sony do not support oem versions-I want the retail version

They dont support them? what do you mean?

I had this machine and when you tried to load the latest Sony firmware upgrade it would not recognize the machine. I phoned Sony and they said the firmware upgrades will not recognize the oem version. I sent it back and decided to wait for the retail 500ax model

has retail version of this drive... saw them this Monday. But they've hiked the price up to £299 as they know how like gold they are.

I was happy enough to get an OEM version for £245 from www.computerorbit.co.uk their website says none in stock but I rang and they had 6 in stock!

Go to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, right click the Controller with the DRU500a on it, Properties, Advanced, and Set Transfer Mode to PIO only
