Maybe someone out there can help me.

I have this xvid movie that was encoded with VBR audio and when I open the file in Virtualdub it tells me that it will cause an audio sync problem.

I want to convert this file to SVCD however no matter what I try the audio will never stay in sync.

I have tried numerous audio extraction utilities such as Avi2Wav, goldwave, virtualdub...and nothing has worked. I try to load the file directly into TMPGEnc and it displays nothing as the audio.

I am not sure if anyone has had the same experience with VBR audio encoded films...

If anyone was successful in resolving this issue I would greatly appreciate any insight you can give me. (is there any way to fix the header in the file to make the audio CBR instead of VBR?)

    Thanks in advance.

Load the avi into Virtualdub. Under the Video tab select Direct stream copy. Under Audio tab select Full processing mode. Again under audio tab, click compression and make sure PCM is selected, under conversion select no changes. Now under file select save avi and save. Note: the file will be nearly twice as large but you will be able to convert to SVCD with no audio sync problems.

  3. Try the 'Virtualdub MP3 freeze' here on the tools section of this site.

If that doesnt work then......what soundforbjt said.

    If the sound doesn´t load up in TMPGEnc,then I think it´s a AC3 sound.
You have to make the AC3 to wave first and then you can encode it as normal.

Try this guide and see if it works:

    Or try this:

  5. My solution is using the AVI decompressor included with AVI2VCD program. I t creates the avi with a pcm audio stream that TMPGEnc has no problems with. The files size will almost double but it is the easiest and best way that works for me.

  7. What works for me:
    - openn Vdub
    - select Direct stream copy on both audio and video
    - save wav (about 110MB)
    - open wav in Nero Wave Editor
    - Save as wav-PCM (about 1GB)
    - open as audio source in TMPGenc or VirtualDub

I got rid of the synch problem this way.
